Citing recent regulatory changes in the U.S. that have made it much more challenging for its international students to attend classes, the Siebel Institute is moving north.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

In 1868, Dr. John Ewald Siebel, a German-born scientist with a doctorate in chemistry, opened a research station and school for brewing sciences in Chicago. That institution would soon become the Siebel Institute of Technology<\/a>, one of the world\u2019s leading brewing sciences schools. It is the oldest brewing school in the Americas.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For the last 157 years the institution has remained a top-tier brewing school and has attracted a global following. Its very long list of alumni include individuals from more than 60 countries. Its influence has always been, and increasingly is, global. On Thursday, the Siebel Institute of Technology announced that after 157 years in Chicago, it is relocating to Montreal. The change is effective on January 1, 2026.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision follows a comprehensive review of operational costs, industry trends, increased student visa challenges to enter the United States; and is fully supported by Siebel\u2019s longstanding partners and stakeholders,\u201d said the press release announcing the relocation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The press release said that the Siebel Institute will continue to offer its online and campus classes and programs from its new home in Montreal and remains committed to delivering the same high standards of education and training that have defined its legacy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMaintaining the quality of education while keeping Siebel Institute and World Brewing Academy offerings affordable was key for us,\u201d said John Hannafan, General Manager and Director of Education, Siebel Institute. \u201cRecent regulatory changes in the U.S. have made it much more challenging for many of our international students, who have become the majority of our student body, to attend classes in person. This relocation of North America classroom operations to Montreal allows us to pivot without sacrificing the student experience.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
