Have you ever felt there is a \u2018ceiling’ capping how much money you make?<\/p>\n

You have goals and targets but for some reason your business income seems to\u00a0get stuck<\/em>\u00a0at a certain point.<\/p>\n

I’ve felt this.<\/p>\n

My first agency business struggled to get past $3,000 a month for most of the time I owned it.<\/p>\n

Then with my blog for a long time I was stuck at $5,000 a month.<\/p>\n

I broke through and for several years $25,000 a month was my new normal with my education business.<\/p>\n

This was a healthy salary, but of course you always want to grow.<\/p>\n

I felt \u2018smart enough’ to build a million dollar a year business, yet for a long time that never happened.<\/p>\n

It can be especially frustrating when you see others making more money doing similar things to you.<\/p>\n

I Ask Myself \u201cWhy Am I Stuck?\u201d<\/h2>\n

As an entrepreneur you’re likely used to solving your own problems.<\/p>\n

When I hit a ceiling I always go through a period of deep self-reflection to try and understand why I am stuck.<\/p>\n

What is it that I am not doing, or doing ineffectively, or perhaps completely missing that is holding me back.<\/p>\n

Here are some of the thoughts that go through my mind\u2026<\/p>\n

  • Is it the market or the industry I am in, or what I am selling, that is holding me back?
    \u200b<\/em><\/li>\n
  • I’m not doing enough \u2014 more marketing, more ad media, better sales funnels, more content is what I need.
    \u200b<\/em><\/li>\n
  • I’m too comfortable. I already make \u2018good money’, better than the average working person, so I’m not hungry to keep pushing.
    \u200b<\/em><\/li>\n
  • When I see what others do to grow bigger, I just feel tired, it’s too hard to compete.
    \u200b<\/em><\/li>\n
  • I’m confused on the right next step. There are things I know I should do, but they take time, money and resources and I don’t want to put in all that effort into something that doesn’t work.
    \u200b<\/em><\/li>\n
  • Maybe I should spin up an entirely new product or service, or even a new sister business to my current one. Something new is needed.
    \u200b<\/em><\/li>\n
  • I need to innovate and test completely different ideas.
    \u200b<\/em><\/li>\n
  • No, I need to double-down on what already works, just incrementally improve and results will come.
    \u200b<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    As you can see, there’s a lot of thinking going on. Perhaps you can relate.<\/p>\n

    What Is The Answer?<\/h2>\n

    I wish I could tell you the right thing to do.<\/p>\n

    Unfortunately as I have come to deeply understand in my last 25 years as an entrepreneur \u2014 there is no one answer.<\/p>\n

    What I can tell you is there are fundamentals that need to be in place, and it’s always smart to work on them.<\/p>\n

    For example\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    • More case studies\/testimonials with happy customers is always necessary, especially if you have none.
      \u200b<\/li>\n
    • Your pricing model needs to make sense. You need profit margins to spin off cash flow to keep growing.
      \u200b<\/li>\n
    • You can’t do it all by yourself. Not hiring is almost always the main roadblock stunting growth.
      \u200b<\/li>\n
    • You’re not getting enough people to see your offer. You need more marketing.
      \u200b<\/li>\n
    • What you sell must provide significant value to a group of people, ideally value that they want to pay for again and again.
      \u200b<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      I could list hundreds of these kinds of bullet points. They are the components to build the machine that makes a business grow.<\/p>\n

      I bet as you read this you thought\u2026 I know all of this!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

      It makes sense. There’s no rocket science here.<\/p>\n

      I agree. I’ve come to the same conclusion.<\/p>\n

      I usually know what things I need to do to grow. You likely do too.<\/p>\n

      So what stops us?<\/p>\n

      Self imposed limitations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      It’s a hard reality to emotionally come to terms with, but we generally hold ourselves back from growth.<\/p>\n

      We do things that don’t matter.<\/p>\n

      We fail to commit to a direction.<\/p>\n

      Even when we don’t know how to do something, we always know where to go to learn or that we can hire someone to do it for us.<\/p>\n

      There’s no true roadblock other than our own mind making decisions on where to focus energy each day.<\/p>\n
