Thunder Berry\u2019s distinct raspberry chipotle flavor profile pairs perfectly with pulled pork, turkey, chicken \u2013 in fact just about all of Zarda\u2019s legendary Ozark hickory smoked BBQ meats. And better yet, the new sauce has an amazing back story and proceeds from its sale go to benefit a fantastic non profit!<\/p>\n<p>Thunder Berry was developed in collaboration with Billy Brimblecom Jr., CEO of nonprofit <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stepsoffaithfoundation.org\/\">Steps of Faith<\/a><\/strong>, a Kansas City nonprofit charity that helps uninsured and underinsured amputees get the prosthetics they need.<\/p>\n<p>Brimblecom founded the Steps of Faith Foundation in 2013. In 2017, he teamed up with longtime friend (and Ted Lasso star) <strong>Jason Sudeikis<\/strong> for an annual charity fundraising variety show known as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thundergong.org\/\">Thundergong<\/a>!\u201d. Both Sudeikis and Brimblecom are drummers \u2013 thus the Thundergong! moniker for the fundraising event. Brimblecom had been a touring drummer who relearned his drumbeats thanks to a new prosthetic leg he received after losing a leg to Ewing Sarcoma in 2005 at age 28.<\/p>\n<p>Zarda had catered rehearsal nights for Thundergong! several times over the years and, after learning more about the group\u2019s mission, Zarda COO Terry Hyer reached out to Brimblecom and said he wanted to do more. According to Hyer, \u201cBilly [Brimblecom] and I were brainstorming, one thing led to another, and the idea to create a new BBQ sauce to help benefit Steps of Faith was born.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13791\" style=\"width: 367px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13791\" class=\"wp-image-13791\" src=\"https:\/\/zarda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/zarda-bbq-thunder-berry-launch-13.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"357\" height=\"247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zarda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/zarda-bbq-thunder-berry-launch-13.jpg 940w, https:\/\/zarda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/zarda-bbq-thunder-berry-launch-13-300x207.jpg 300w, https:\/\/zarda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/zarda-bbq-thunder-berry-launch-13-768x531.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 357px) 100vw, 357px\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-13791\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Karla Quant \u2013 Hy-Vee, Terry Hyer \u2013 Zarda Bar-B-Q COO, Debinha \u2013 KC Current, and Billy Brimblecom \u2013 Steps of Faith.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The soccer tie-in is part Sudeikis\/Ted Lasso and part Brimblecom and Hyer\u2019s love for the sport, especially the KC Current. The Thunder Berry sauce was well on its way into development when a chance contact with a KC Current friend led to a connection with KC Current soccer star <strong>Debinha<\/strong>. After making contact with her, Hyer said, \u201cDebinha loved the idea of the sauce and its charitable ties and wanted to use her voice to help promote this amazing cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Debinha came on board, the label for the new Thunder Berry sauce was quickly reimagined with KC Current colors and put into production. Zarda then reached out to long-time retail partner Hy-Vee to test their interest in partnering on the sauce \u2013 the answer came back as a resounding \u201cYes!\u201d Fast forward to today and Thunder Berry is now available in all Kansas City area Hy-Vee locations and Zarda Bar-B-Q locations in Blue Springs and Lenexa.<\/p>\n<p>According to Steps of Faith founder Billy Brimblecom Jr.:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThanks to Zarda, Hy-Vee, and Debinha, Kansas Citians can enjoy a delicious new raspberry chipotle barbecue sauce while also helping some truly deserving individuals, as proceeds from the sale of the sauce are going to Steps of Faith! There\u2019s something so\u00a0fitting\u00a0about the fact\u00a0that\u00a0we are able to\u00a0launch\u00a0this Thunder Berry sauce in this amazing new stadium \u2013 the first stadium of its kind dedicated to a women\u2019s pro sports team. And soccer is a sport where\u00a0physical mobility\u00a0is essential. Steps of\u00a0Faith\u00a0restores physical mobility to those without it.
