Quad Veranda Stateroom on Koningsdam\u00a0<\/h2>\n

Today, we share our Alaska cruise experience staying in a Quad Veranda Stateroom on Koningsdam, a Pinnacle-class cruise ship operated by Holland America Line.<\/p>\n

We did a 7-night Alaska\u00a0cruise that departs from and returns to Vancouver<\/a>, British Columbia. This cruise made port at Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan, and it sailed through the magnificent Glacier Bay National Park<\/a> in Alaska<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We sailed on this Holland America cruise in mid-August 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Before we get started, it\u2019s important to disclose that we were hosted on this Alaska cruise with\u00a0Holland America Line<\/a>. In exchange for this complimentary cruise, we were asked to share our personal experiences on this travel blog. As always, all opinions expressed here are our own.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Quad<\/a><\/p>\n

How to decide what stateroom is best for you?<\/h3>\n

Guests on the Koningsdam have plenty of options when it comes to staterooms. There are literally hundreds of staterooms to choose from, ranging from spacious premium suites to balcony staterooms and interior cabins.<\/p>\n

Obviously, price will be the biggest factor in your decision.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m sure, if given the option, every passenger would jump at the chance to stay in one of the spacious Pinnacle Suites<\/a>. However, not every budget can handle that level of luxury.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Therefore, the best stateroom for you is the one that fits your budget and meets your key requirements.\u00a0<\/h4>\n

For us, we need a room that sleeps four people. That\u2019s an essential requirement for our family.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We prefer a private balcony. An inside cabin would not work for us. We find the inside cabins a little too claustrophobic for our liking. And we like to have the door open (or window) for fresh air. It helps to reduce the feelings of sea sickness.<\/p>\n

Plus, given that this is an Alaskan cruise, we want to spend as much time as possible on the veranda soaking up the incredible landscapes and searching for humpback whales.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Based on these requirements, we believe the quad veranda stateroom is a great fit for our family.<\/p>\n

Layout of the Quad Veranda Stateroom on Koningsdam\u00a0<\/h3>\n

Prior to boarding the Koningsdam, we searched online for photos of the four person layout on this cruise ship. We found photos of the king sized bed (pictured above) and sofa-bed pullout. However, we could not find photos of where the \u201cfourth\u201d person would sleep.<\/p>\n

Surprise \u2013 the bed is in the ceiling!<\/h4>\n

As you can see in these photos, a small twin size bed is stored above the main bed. It\u2019s the perfect size for a young kid.<\/p>\n

That said, I am glad that our boy is light. Because I\u2019m not sure how much weight this overhead bed can handle. I\u2019m assuming it\u2019s fine for kids and teenagers, but I would not think a large adult would be comfortable in that bed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In case you\u2019re curious \u2013 this is room 6145<\/strong> on Koningsdam.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"room<\/a><\/p>\n

The king size bed can actually be split into two twin size beds.<\/p>\n

So you have bed layout options, in the event you don\u2019t want to share the main bed.<\/p>\n

\"Quad<\/a><\/p>\n

Each evening, when we went out for dinner, our friendly stateroom attendants (shout out to Anwar and Irfan!) would set up the room for bedtime. They would pull down the upper bed and get it ready for our boy.<\/p>\n

In the morning, when we either disembarked the ship or went out for breakfast, they would lift the bed back into the ceiling.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the same time, they would pull out the sofa bed and get it ready for our other boy. Scroll back up to the first photo to see the sofa and desk area.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The quad veranda stateroom on Koningsdam is quite functional and versatile.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The extra bed is hidden in the ceiling and comes down when it\u2019s bed time.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\"Private<\/a><\/p>\n

Private balcony on Koningsdam cruise ship<\/h3>\n

When on an Alaska cruise, we think it\u2019s best to get a private veranda stateroom. The landscapes are stunning here, and there\u2019s a good chance you will see whales, porpoises, sea lions and sea otters from your balcony. We did.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now, I understand that not every budget can support a private balcony. However, if you\u2019re on the fence, we would push you to get the veranda stateroom.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In our younger days, we stayed in an interior room while on a Caribbean cruise<\/a> because we wanted the cheapest option. It was fine for the time, but I don\u2019t think we\u2019d do it again. Especially now that we have pre-teen boys.<\/p>\n
