Visit a waterfall in Western North Carolina<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nI\u2019m gonna be honest\u2026 this blog post was written in total selfishness. I was bored and wanted to get out of my comfort zone and DO something. I wanted an adventure. I\u2019m spending too much time at my desk and not enough time enjoying this great state of North Carolina. <\/p>\n
But not in 2025.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nThere are 37 bucket list adventures on this list. I tried to make them unique and fun. I\u2019m going to do 25 of them in 2025. That\u2019s one every other week.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Will you join me?? I might even create an event or two this year to invite a few followers along with me to knock out some of these items. Please let me know what adventures you\u2019re taking and which ones were the most fun!\u00a0<\/p>\n

Want a Downloadable version? Click Here<\/a><\/p>\nAdventure & Outdoors<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n- Go ziplining<\/strong> in a forest or over a scenic area. If you want to stay in Raleigh<\/a>, you can try Go Ape<\/a>. For a short day trip, head over to Greensboro. The Greensboro Science Center has a great zip lining adventure<\/a>. Extra bonus, it\u2019s right next to the tigers. For something a little more scenic, but close to home, check out Zipquest in Fayetteville<\/a>. Their zipline goes over waterfalls and they also have a swinging rope bridge, which will let you cross off two bucket list items at once \u2013 suspension bridge is the last one on this section. \ud83d\ude42\u00a0<\/li>\n
- Sleep under the stars<\/strong> Bonus if you can find a dark sky area. Here\u2019s a list of the closest dark sky areas to Raleigh.<\/a>\u00a0<\/li>\n
- Go tubing or rafting<\/strong> on a nearby river. In the Raleigh area, you can go tubing on the Cape Fear River<\/a> the Deep River<\/a>, or for something a little more adventurous, head to Boone<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n
- Take a sunrise hike<\/strong> to see the world wake up.<\/li>\n
- Drive part of a scenic byway<\/strong>, like the Blue Ridge Parkway or a local equivalent.<\/li>\n
- Cross a suspension bridge<\/strong> or a famous walking bridge. You can find a list of bridges here.<\/a>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Visit one of the seven lighthouses on the North Carolina coast. (This is Old Baldy on Bald Head Island.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nTravel & Exploration<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n- Visit the tallest point east of the Mississippi River <\/strong>Mount Mitchell i<\/a>s the highest peak east of the Mississippi River and it has a viewing deck.\u00a0<\/li>\n
- Take a train ride<\/strong>, even if it\u2019s just for the fun of the journey. Try the New Hope Valley Railway<\/a>, Great Smokey Mountain Railroad<\/a>, or take Amtrak f<\/a>rom the Triangle to Greensboro.<\/li>\n
- Stand in two states at once (find a nearby state line or marker).<\/li>\n
- Walk through a cave<\/strong> or go on a guided cavern tour. Linville Caverns<\/a><\/li>\n
- Visit a lighthouse<\/strong> and climb to the top if you can. Old Baldy <\/a>on Bald Head Island has 110 steps.<\/li>\n
- Drive from the coast to the mountains<\/strong> in one day and watch the sunrise and sunset.<\/li>\n
- Go to a drive in movie. Try Triangle Drive in Theatre<\/a>, or for something a little more country, check out the Eden Drive in<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Seasonal Fun<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n- Go sledding down a big hill<\/strong> in the winter \u2013 you might have to travel somewhere to see snow. Hint\u2026Greensboro often gets snow even when we don\u2019t get any here in the Triangle.\u00a0<\/li>\n
- Pick wildflowers<\/strong> and press them into a keepsake book. Here\u2019s a link to the best wildflower trails in North Carolina. All but one is out west. No cheating\u2026 picking dandelions from your front yard. But if you DO happen to have a wildflower patch in your yard, that counts!\u00a0<\/li>\n
- Attend a hot air balloon festival<\/strong> or watch a balloon launch. The Carolina Balloonfest<\/a> is in Statesville, NC on October 17-19. Will I see you there?\u00a0<\/li>\n
- Run into the ocean fully clothed<\/strong> or wade into a lake at night.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Check out the Carolina Ballonfest in Statesville, NC in October.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nUnique Experiences<\/strong><\/h3>\nFun Achievements<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n- Learn to do a cartwheel<\/strong> or another physical skill you\u2019ve always wanted to master.<\/li>\n
- Ride a mechanical bull<\/strong> (or at least try!). PBR Cowboy bar Fenton in Cary<\/a> is the only one I could find. If you decide to go and need something to wear try Rough Stock Western Wear<\/a> in Raleigh or Country Connection<\/a> in Garner. You\u2019re bound to run into a real North Carolinian in either of those places.\u00a0<\/li>\n
- Find a geocache<\/strong> and leave something behind. Geocaching.com<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

American Museum of the House Cat!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nPersonal Adventures<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n- Conquer your fear of something<\/strong>, like heights, public speaking, or swimming.<\/li>\n
- Spend a night in a themed hotel or Airbnb<\/strong>, like a treehouse or tiny home.<\/li>\n
- Attend a demolition derby<\/strong> or similar unique event. Goodguys Griots <\/a>garage on April 18th at the state fairgrounds <\/a>April 26th or Tour of Destruction<\/a> at the hickory motor speedway\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n
- Drive a go-kart<\/strong> at a local track. Rush Hour Karting<\/a>, Galaxy Fun Park<\/a> or Adventure Landing<\/a> are all local.<\/li>\n
- Stand in a cornfield maze<\/strong> and find your way out. Here\u2019s a list.<\/a> Remember they\u2019re seasonal and probably won\u2019t be open until September or so.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
