From the suppression of curricula in classrooms to political assaults on museums and the deliberate erasure of archival records, the essential spaces where our nation\u2019s story is told are being challenged like never before.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">In the face of this onslaught, OAH has only deepened our work and strengthened our commitment to advocate for our profession and to advance the scholarship, teaching, and public presentation of U.S. history.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote eplus-wrapper is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><cite>\u2014 <strong>Debbie J. Goldman,<\/strong> OAH member, historian, and author<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote eplus-wrapper is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Responding to the Urgency of this Moment<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">The OAH has issued or endorsed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oah.org\/news\/category\/advocacy-news\/\">14 advocacy statements and calls to action<\/a>, decrying censorship and promoting honest and evidence-based history. These have responded to executive orders on \u201cEnding Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling\u201d and on \u201cRestoring Truth and Sanity to American History,\u201d defended history at our National Parks, condemned the politically-motivated White House review of the Smithsonian, denounced attacks on academic freedom, and called for the preservation of federal funding sources.<\/p>\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">The OAH is on track to preserve hundreds of voices of federal workers and contractors through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fecohp.org\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.fecohp.org\/\">Federal Employees and Contractors Oral History Project<\/a>, preserving history as it is unfolding and perspectives that might otherwise be lost. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oah.org\/resources\/advocacy-partners\/harpp\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.oah.org\/resources\/advocacy-partners\/harpp\/\">History, Archives, and Records Preservation Project<\/a> (HARPP) is working to safeguard at-risk records and to ensure that evidence-based history interpretation at our historical and cultural institutions continues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">We are building and strengthening our community of historians by hosting member forums, advocacy write-ins, and webinars. Through our participation in national coalitions with allied organizations we advance and amplify shared goals. OAH\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oah.org\/best-practices\/contingent-faculty-bill-of-rights\/\">Contingent Faculty Bill of Rights<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oah.org\/best-practices\/standards-for-the-employment-of-part-time-adjunct-and-contingent-faculty\/\">Employment Standards<\/a>, and our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oah.org\/best-practices\/academic-freedom-guidelines-and-best-practices\/\">Best Practices in Defense of Academic Freedom<\/a> continue to advance essential professional standards and principles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">The <em>Journal of American History <\/em>continues to set the standard for excellence in U.S. history research and writing, publishing cutting-edge historical scholarship that advances in the discipline. <em>The American Historian<\/em>, Process: a Blog for American History, and the <em>JAH<\/em> Podcast provide teaching resources, historical commentary on contemporary events, and resources for professional development.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote eplus-wrapper is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><cite>\u2014 <strong>Clarence (Jeff) Hall Jr.<\/strong>, OAH member and Associate Professor at Queensborough Community College<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote eplus-wrapper is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote eplus-wrapper is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Join Us on Giving Tuesday<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">On Giving Tuesday, we ask that you consider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oah.org\/about\/support-oah\/\">making a gift<\/a> to support the OAH to help us sustain and expand our work at this critical time.
