\u2019Tis the season to don whatever outfit looks best under fluorescent strip lights, get unprofessionally tipsy, and rock up to your Friday morning meeting with a headache from Hades.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

That\u2019s right, folks: it\u2019s Christmas party season.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

For all its flaws, I\u2019m still a defender of the holiday hoolie.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But according to a recent poll<\/a> from small business credit card provider Capital on Tap<\/a>, I might be in the minority. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Their survey<\/a>, which involved 2,000 UK workers, found that just under 90% (89.4%) would swap their office\u2019s festive function for something else. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What do workers wish they got instead of office parties? <\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n
\n

Perhaps unsurprisingly, amidst a cost-of-living crisis<\/a> and wage stagnation<\/a>, a majority of respondents (over half) said they\u2019d rather have cash than a Christmas party. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Second-highest on the list was extra annual leave (again, this might not be the world\u2019s biggest shock, given that over one in three UK workers <\/a>are believed to be experiencing burnout).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Others wanted a gift card, while some said they\u2019d prefer an office-hours team lunch over a post-5pm party. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

And just under 13% said they\u2019d rather their team were simply given the same funds to plan their own party. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

A little more than 11% of respondents said they\u2019d rather the money went to charitable causes, and almost 8% would rather the moolah was spent on a processional development kitty.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Team lunch instead of a party \u2013 16.7%<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Wellbeing voucher (gym, spa, therapy) \u2013 13.5%<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  7. \n

    Team budget to plan own celebration \u2013 12.8%<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  8. \n

    Donation to charity \u2013 11.3%<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Contribution to professional development fund \u2013 7.7%. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n

    All in, only 10.6% said they\u2019d rather keep the party. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \u201cWhile a company Christmas party may be \u2018nice to have\u2019, the research reflects a clear message to businesses who may be using a festive celebration as a way to reward employees,\u201d Capital on Tap said in a press release.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \u201cIt seems staff would much rather have something meaningful and tangible to help feel a sense of appreciation.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
