{"id":306307,"date":"2025-11-20T14:01:31","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T14:01:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/uncategorized\/homebuyer-regret-falls-to-new-low-in-2025-realtor-com-says\/"},"modified":"2025-11-20T14:01:31","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T14:01:31","slug":"homebuyer-regret-falls-to-new-low-in-2025-realtor-com-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=306307","title":{"rendered":"Homebuyer regret falls to new low in 2025, Realtor.com says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"membership-content\">\n<p>With homes lingering on the market for a median of 63 days in October 2025 \u2014 almost two weeks longer than the same month in 2023 \u2014 buyers are entering transactions with more caution, clarity and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/saving-for-a-down-payment-can-take-decades-for-minimum-wage-workers\/\">financial preparation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, 37% of 2025 buyers reported having no regrets at all, up from 31% two years earlier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the market has shifted from a fast-paced sellers\u2019 market to one that gives buyers more breathing room, we\u2019re seeing buyer regret trend down,\u201d said Laura Eddy, Realtor.com\u2019s vice president of research and insights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s buyers are generally more qualified, taking extra time to weigh their options and make confident decisions \u2014 factors that are helping reduce second-guessing after purchase. And for many, that means having even more to feel thankful for this season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, not all purchases were free of friction.<\/p>\n<p>Among the buyers who had second thoughts, the most common pain points remained tied to the realities of homeownership: unexpected <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/homeowners-delay-repairs-safety-financial-risks\/\">maintenance needs<\/a> (16%), higher-than-anticipated household expenses (15%) and depleted savings after closing (14%).<\/p>\n<p>A generational gap also emerged, illustrating how experience shapes confidence:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/baby-boomer-homeownership-trends-2025-survey\/\">Baby boomers<\/a> were the least likely to express regret, with 60% saying their purchase felt right \u2014 and only minor issues cropping up.<\/li>\n<li>Generation X followed closely, with 45% reporting no regrets.<\/li>\n<li>About one-third (34%) of millennials had no regrets, and they frequently cited wiped-out savings, surprise maintenance costs and budget strains.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/1-in-5-gen-z-adults-say-housing-affordability-is-top-life-concern\/\">Gen Z<\/a> buyers struggled most as only 27% reported a regret-free purchase, and many pointed to skipped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/propy-inspectify-home-inspection-partnership\/\">inspections<\/a>, higher costs, and lifestyle mismatches such as commute and neighborhood dissatisfaction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-table\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/homebuyer-regret-2025\/visualisation\/26344295?2997832\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/visualisation\/26344295\/thumbnail\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"table visualization\"\/><\/div>\n<p>Younger respondents were also more likely to be caught off guard by location compromises \u2014 showing how affordability pressures can push <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/home-affordability-delaying-life-milestones-for-aspiring-buyers\/\">first-time buyers<\/a> farther from preferred areas.<\/p>\n<p>With their pace slowing and expectations recalibrated, many appear better equipped for long-term satisfaction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuyers today are entering the market with clearer expectations and stronger financial footing,\u201d Eddy said. \u201cEven though affordability remains a challenge, the slower pace has allowed people to make decisions that feel right for them, and that\u2019s reflected in lower regret levels across the board.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With homes lingering on the market for a median of 63 days in October 2025 \u2014 almost two weeks longer than the same month in 2023 \u2014 buyers are entering transactions with more caution, clarity and financial preparation.
