Bozal Cempas\u00fachil mezcal is made to be experienced\u2026 repeatedly.<\/p>\n<p>This limited-edition release from Bozal\u2019s Reserva line begins with Espad\u00edn agave deep in the mountains of Oaxaca. Harvested by hand and roasted in earthen pit ovens, the agave goes through the ancestral method of mezcal making\u2014a process so old and intricate it feels more like ceremony than production. Picture mezcaleros hand-crushing agave with wooden mallets and distilling in clay pot stills. It\u2019s slow, soulful, and worth every step.<\/p>\n<p>In the final distillation, cempas\u00fachil flowers \u2014 the bright orange Mexican marigolds you might remember from repeated viewing of <em>Coco<\/em> \u2014 and mandarin orange peels are placed at the bottom of the still. The result is a mezcal that\u2019s floral on the nose, vibrant with citrus on the palate, and gently smoky as it lingers.<\/p>\n<p>In Mexican tradition, cempas\u00fachil is known as the \u201cflower of the dead,\u201d used during D\u00eda de los Muertos to light the path for loved ones returning home. It\u2019s more than an infusion\u2014it\u2019s an homage, turning each sip into a quiet celebration of memory and connection.<\/p>\n<p>The bottle, too, feels like part of the ritual. Crafted in black ceramic and etched with marigold motifs, it\u2019s as much an art piece as it is a bottle. It definitely flies in the face of my personal adage form 20 years ago that, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.boozist.com\/coolest-vodka-bottles\/\"><strong>the cooler the bottle<\/strong><\/a> the worse the spirit.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>At 47% ABV, Bozal Cempas\u00fachil has presence without harshness\u2014bold enough to savor neat, yet elegant enough to invite another pour.
