Vicki writes heartwarming historical fiction about the friendships and loves of service women brought together by the Second World War. She loves reading books about friendship, romance and adventure, so incorporates all those things in her stories. Since then, she has worked as a maths teacher and education consultant before turning freelance to give herself more time to write.<\/p>\n<p>In her free time, when she can drag herself away from reading, she enjoys walking and travelling to far-off places by train. It would help no end to have audible clues to let me know whether someone could be trusted or if something bad was about to happen! Choosing only five pieces might be a challenge, but here goes\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday Girl by Simple Minds<\/strong>. This was a B-side to one of their singles, and I became completely obsessed with it at university, much to the bemusement of my friends. Looking back, it\u2019s hard to believe\u00a0 I still had friends by the time I finished my degree, thanks to the number of times I insisted on playing the song on repeat. In fact, it\u2019s probably a good test of friendship. I can\u2019t go out without it between April and October.<\/p>\n<p>My Audible subscription \u2013 The thing about being a writer is that I spend a lot of time staring at my laptop screen, and my eyes are often too tired for reading in the evenings. I love to be able to close my eyes and listen instead.<\/p>\n<p>Chocolate \u2013 I\u2019m sure that doesn\u2019t need any explanation!<\/p>\n<p>The view from my bedroom \u2013 There\u2019s a gap between the houses opposite that allows me to see distant woods and fields. I find it very inspiring.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center has-light-gray-background-color has-text-color has-background wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#5bc955;\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#4a7c4f;\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Give five pieces of advice to your younger self?<\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Start Pilates now \u2013 your spine will thank you later on.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t give up when you write rubbish. Working out how to make a passage better is part of the process.<\/p>\n<p>Comparison really is the thief of joy.<\/p>\n<p>Pursue your dreams \u2013 you\u2019ll get there if you keep going \u2013 but always\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 Appreciate the present and celebrate what you\u2019ve already achieved.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center has-light-gray-background-color has-text-color has-background wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#4a7c4f;\"><strong>Tell us five things that most people don\u2019t know about you<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>There\u2019s a cardboard cutout of me at Adam\u2019s Park (Wycombe Wanderers\u2019 football ground). I\u2019m a Wycombe Wanderers supporter, and during lockdown, you could pay to have a cardboard cutout of yourself in the stands at Adam\u2019s Park to help make up for their loss of gate receipts. I couldn\u2019t collect it when lockdown ended because I live too far away, and it\u2019s now on the wall outside the ground.<\/p>\n<p>I once played tiddlywinks from Marble Arch to Piccadilly Circus.<\/p>\n<p>I love travelling by train and have taken trains to places as far afield as Prague and Krakow.<\/p>\n<p>I have real trouble telling left from right and can only do it by checking the birthmark on my right hand.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m really bad at thinking up interesting things when asked to say something about myself that people don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center has-light-gray-background-color has-text-color has-background wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#4a7c4f;\"><strong>Tell us five things you\u2019d still like to do or achieve.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Volunteer on an archaeological dig, particularly one investigating a Roman villa.<\/p>\n<p>Travel through Italy by train.<\/p>\n<p>Travel to the far north of Norway, stay in an ice hotel and see the Northern Lights.<\/p>\n<p>Become famous enough to qualify for an episode of Who Do You Think You Are?<\/p>\n<p>Have one of my books made into a TV series. <\/p>\n<p><em>Many thanks for joining me today Vicki, it\u2019s been a pleasure getting to know you.
