Prayers. Devotion. A large Campfire Mocha at the local Caribou.<\/em><\/p>\nFirst, a preemptive paragraph about my insane ambitions. On May 1st, my morning prayer was most consoling and my writer\u2019s heart, overflowing with love. I sat down at the computer and cracked my literary knuckles in anticipation. \u201cBecause it\u2019s the first of May and I LOVE May, I am hoping to do a post\/day every day,\u201d I wrote\u2026<\/p>\n
\u2026and I met this goal\u2026<\/p>\n
\u2026for a whopping five days.<\/p>\n
As an artist, I need like nothing<\/em> to CREATE and when I don\u2019t create? I start to crack. Once, on our way to the carpool drop-off, I told Maria that I was feeling depressed. \u201cI think maybe you need to make something,\u201d she suggested, and I thought, \u201cSince when did the daughter become wiser than the mom?\u201d<\/p>\nAnd that\u2019s what I\u2019m here to write about. I have a lump in my throat as I write these words, because I don\u2019t know where I\u2019d be without my girls.<\/p>\n
Also? Right now I\u2019m cracking, because there\u2019s not a Minnesotan snowball\u2019s chance in hell that I could have met my goal of a blog post a day, and who\u2019s got the time to read all that anyway? More than anything, though, is the pressure of meeting ALL the expectations of a manic month. What I really need is for you to say, \u201cI get it. I\u2019m going through it too, my friend.\u201d<\/p>\n
Or just think it. Think LOUD so I can hear you from here.<\/p>\n
And now for the mini-memoir part. Right after I gave birth to my oldest daughter, having already had two little boys, I turned to the labor nurse with a weak, happy grin and said, \u201cI got my girl!\u201d She gave my arm a comforting squeeze and smiled back.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou got your girl.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fast forward eighteen years and two more daughters (and two little boys) later. I take a very real pleasure in telling people that I have seven children, \u201cincluding<\/em>,\u201d (I pause for dramatic effect), \u201cthree teenage daughters!\u201d<\/p>\nTheir mouths drop and I nod.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight?\u201d I say.<\/p>\n
I wouldn\u2019t have it any other way.<\/p>\n
And so, I\u2019m not going to be a consistent blogger and I\u2019m not able to write a post a day because we have two different proms and a Senior play. We have concerts and soccer games and late night trips to the local Target, where we wander giggling up and down the cosmetic aisles and trade advice on under-eye concealer.<\/p>\n
We have a graduation, for crying out loud! And announcements for a grad party that I\u2019ve yet to order.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m tired and I\u2019m overwhelmed and my mother\u2019s heart nearly breaks with the stress of navigating this uncertain path. Who am I to parent these three beautiful girls? Who am I?<\/em>\u00a0In short, I\u2019m the mom that God has lovingly called to one of the most demanding vocations on the PLANET and the Good News is:<\/p>\nI\u2019m not alone.<\/strong><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
