Over a decade ago, the publishers
\nof <\/span>The
\nJubilee Bible <\/span><\/a><\/i><\/b>sent
\nme a copy to review, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear from the new
\npublisher, <\/span>Ransom Press
\nInternational,<\/a> advising me of the updated version, which they kindly sent me
\nto examine and review.<\/span><\/p>\n

The back of the
\nprotective sleeve my copy arrived in states an extraordinary aspect of this
\ntranslation: \u201cThe Jubilee Bible<\/i> is the only one we know of that has each
\nunique Hebrew and Greek word matched and mated with a unique English word.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

My first impression of
\nthe packaging and the actual copy was, \u201cWell-done!\u201d This edition has an
\nattractive, flexible cover with sewn-in pages that lay flat, revealing wide
\nmargins and a very readable 10.5 type with ample leading between the lines.
\nAlthough no maps have been included, the back matter has a \u201cBible Dictionary of
\nthe Proper Names in Scripture.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

That page also provides
\na URL for the online
\nConcordanc<\/a>e, which, not only shows words translated consistently throughout
\nthe Bible, but lists the number of occurrences. For example, \u201cForgive\u201d occurs
\nas that particular word 111 times, while \u201cGrace\u201d appears 205 times, and \u201cReconcile\u201d
\n120.<\/span><\/p>\n

And speaking of
\nreconciling, the editor and translator, Russell Stendal, who was once held
\nhostage by Colombian rebels, has since spent his life as a missionary to the
\nsame peoples. That work even includes trips deep into the jungle and parachute
\ndrops of Bibles!<\/span><\/p>\n

In the earlier review,
\nI offered no comparisons of actual scripture, which I\u2019d like to remedy now by
\nshowing some well-known verses in the King James Version <\/i>and in the Jubilee
\nBible<\/i> too.<\/span><\/p>\n

Genesis 1:1-2<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

KJV \u2013 \u201cIn the beginning
\nGod created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void;
\nand darkness\u00a0was<\/i>\u00a0upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of
\nGod moved upon the face of the waters.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

JB \u2013\u201d In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
\nAnd the earth was without order, and empty, and darkness was upon the face of
\nthe deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Exodus 20:12-13<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

KJV \u2013 \u201cHonour thy
\nfather and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD
\nthy God giveth thee. <\/span>Thou
\nshalt not kill.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

JB \u2013 \u201cHonour thy father
\nand thy mother that thou days may be lengthened upon the land which the LORD thy
\nGod gives thee. Thou shalt not murder.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

John 14:2<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

KJV \u2013 \u201cIn my Father’s
\nhouse are many mansions: if\u00a0it were<\/i>\u00a0not\u00a0so<\/i>, I
\nwould have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

JB \u2013 \u201cIn my Father\u2019s
\nhouse are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go
\nto prepare a place for you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I expect this Bible
\nwill have a place with me in my weekly study group. And, since I\u2019m writing this
\non Ash Wednesday, I\u2019d like to encourage you to read the Bible every day of
\nLent.<\/span><\/p>\n

With adequate reading
\ntime, it\u2019s possible to read the entire book! If that sounds too intimidating,
\nconsider reading the Gospels and Psalms during Lent, and if that\u2019s still
\noverwhelming, pick a book, preferably from the New Testament to study. Surely,
\nGod will guide you into what will speak to you during this season and
\nthroughout the year.<\/span><\/p>\n
