When I launched Terroirist way back in the fall of 2010, wine blogging was having a moment \u2014 its moment \u2014 in the collective wine consciousness.<\/p>\n
Alder Yarrow\u2019s Vinography<\/a> was a daily visit.\u00a0Joe Roberts<\/a>\u00a0was making waves. Tyler Colman<\/a> and Tom Wark<\/a> were offering an endless stream of thoughtful commentary. Keith Levenberg<\/a> rarely posted, but when he did, one couldn\u2019t help but think that his essays belonged in the New Yorker<\/em>. At the New York Times<\/em> and San Francisco Chronicle<\/em>, Eric Asimov and Jon\u00a0Bonn\u00e9 were supplementing their must-read columns with must-read blog posts.<\/p>\nThere were so many of us. Hundreds would attend the annual\u00a0Wine Bloggers Conference and its European counterpart.<\/p>\n
Many of those pioneers still write prolifically, but that moment has passed. Several of the best \u201cbloggers\u201d made careers out of it. But many more faded back to other endeavors, like their day jobs and raising their kids. Today, I\u2019m officially joining the ranks of that latter group and bidding farewell to Terroirist.<\/p>\n
This isn\u2019t a goodbye to wine and drinks writing; I still enjoy drafting<\/a> features<\/a> when I can find the time. But it no longer makes sense to keep the lights on at Terroirist.<\/p>\nSo thank you, dear reader, for all the support over the years. I know that many of you have started each and every day with Terroirist \u2014 and for your traffic (and emails), I\u2019m forever grateful.<\/p>\n
To Shelby, Isaac, and the other Terroirists \u2014 thank you for all your work over the years. I look forward to reading your work, wherever it is published.<\/p>\n
I\u2019d be remiss if I didn\u2019t take this opportunity to solicit offers for Terroirist. If you\u2019re interested in the site or even just the domain, please let me know.<\/p>\n
