Wataru Endo<\/a> has reiterated his intention to stay at Liverpool next season, even if \u201cthe club tells me to leave,\u201d insisting he can earn a bigger role in the team.<\/b><\/p>\n

Endo was considered an early candidate for a summer transfer but last month the experienced midfielder dismissed claims he was looking for an exit.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Japanese broadcaster ABEMA<\/a> at the end of May, the 32-year-old said he \u201cwouldn\u2019t throw it away<\/a>\u201d for a move elsewhere.<\/p>\n

And during a Q&A at a live event for his \u2018Monthly Endo Wataru\u2019 platform, he was again asked if he would be leaving Liverpool.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told you I\u2019m staying!\u201d he replied, per Soccer Digest<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the club tells me to leave\u2026no, I\u2019m staying. I have a contract. It\u2019s up to me to make the final decision. Basically, I\u2019m staying, for now.\u201d<\/p>\n

That comes despite his limited minutes in a first campaign under Arne Slot<\/a>, albeit in an important role now described as a \u2018closer\u2019, coming on late into games to hold onto a result.<\/p>\n

As he continued his interview in front of fans in his hometown of Kanagawa, Endo discussed that responsibility and outlined his belief that he can earn more game time next season.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople started calling me a \u2018closer\u2019, but I don\u2019t think people would call me that if I\u2019d come on in the last 10 or 15 minutes of a game and conceded goals every time,\u201d the No. 3 explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe \u2018closer\u2019 position is one I finally won in the situation I was placed in.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been called a \u2018closer\u2019 as a result of fulfilling the role I was given, so it means that I\u2019ve found my purpose this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I can show that Endo can be a \u2018closer\u2019, and that he can play even as a starter, from next season onwards, there won\u2019t be any problem.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s a high possibility that I\u2019ll be able to play in various positions in the future, so I think I can carry that over to the next stage.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Harvey Elliott<\/a> expected to depart along with Tyler Morton<\/a>, Stefan Bajcetic<\/a> and, at least on loan, James McConnell<\/a>, it would come as no surprise if Liverpool had no plans to sell Endo.<\/p>\n

That is magnified by a possible exit for Andy Robertson<\/a>, as though the Scot is likely to lose his place as first-choice left-back next season he would still be one of the biggest influences in the dressing room.<\/p>\n

Endo is among the most experienced players in the squad and his ability to embrace a bit-part role will be cherished by Slot \u2013 who can again count on his most consistent squad player next time out.<\/p>\n
