memories come flooding back with today\u2019s recipe for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/littlechef.fandom.com\/wiki\/Olympic_Breakfast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Little Chef Olympic Breakfast,\u00a0<\/a>which I\u2019ve shared on Father\u2019s Day, in memory of my late father, who loved a Little Chef breakfast.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our local\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/littlechef.fandom.com\/wiki\/Malton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Little Chef was on the A64<\/a>\u00a0near\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitmalton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Malton, in North Yorkshire.\u00a0<\/a>My parents used to pop in there regularly on their way back from York, and even make special trips with the was a treat to be taken there for them, with a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavenderandlovage.com\/?s=Children\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cheap &amp; cheerful children\u2019s meal,\u00a0<\/a>followed by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavenderandlovage.com\/?s=Ice+Cream\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an ice cream<\/a>\u00a0and a lollipop if they were good and had eaten all their food!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When I lived nearby, I would often treat myself to one of their famous<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavenderandlovage.com\/?s=COOKED+BREAKFAST\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0breakfasts,<\/a>\u00a0of which the Olympic Breakfast was a favourite, and their most popular I\u2019ve subsequently read.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" was gargantuan, and there was no need to eat anything else for the rest of the day, or the evening. It wasn\u2019t just\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavenderandlovage.com\/?s=bacon+and+eggs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bacon and eggs,<\/a>\u00a0although there were lighter<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavenderandlovage.com\/?s=breakfast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0breakfast\u00a0<\/a>menu choices.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Olympic Breakfast remained more or less the same after it was introduced in 1994, with the odd tweak here and there, especially when\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/lifeandstyle\/wordofmouth\/2009\/jan\/19\/big-chef-little-chef-heston-blumenthal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Heston Blumenthal<\/a>\u00a0took the reins for a while.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"978\" height=\"1024\" finally in 2017\/2018.\u00a0<\/a>I feel very sad about its demise, as it was part of my childhood and has intrinsic links with my late parents and family.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So, with memories of happy family times at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/littlechef.fandom.com\/wiki\/Malton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Malton Little Chef,<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/littlechef.fandom.com\/wiki\/Staxton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Staxton Little Chef,<\/a>\u00a0and for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavenderandlovage.com\/?s=father%27s+Day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Father\u2019s Day,<\/a>\u00a0I am sharing my take on <a one, as my late mother used to cook this for me before I used to go to school. It would have been her 89th birthday on the 22nd October, and I have been thinking about her more than usual over the last week. Not that we knew this simple egg recipe as Egg in a Cup! href=\"https:\/\/littlechef.fandom.com\/wiki\/Olympic_Breakfast\" target=\"_blank\">Little Chef Olympic Breakfast, <\/a>which I&#8217;ve shared on Father&#8217;s Day, in memory of my late father, who loved a Little Chef breakfast.<\/p>\n<p>Our local <a href=\"https:\/\/littlechef.fandom.com\/wiki\/Malton\" target=\"_blank\">Little Chef was on the A64<\/a> near <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitmalton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Malton, in North Yorkshire. <\/a>My parents used to pop in there regularly on their way back from York, and even make special trips with the grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>It was a treat to be taken there for them, with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavenderandlovage.com\/?s=Children\" target=\"_blank\">cheap &amp; cheerful children&#8217;s meal, <\/a>followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavenderandlovage.com\/?s=Ice+Cream\" target=\"_blank\">an ice cream<\/a> and a lollipop if they were good and had eaten all their food!<\/p>\n<p>When I lived nearby, I would often treat myself to one of their famous<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavenderandlovage.com\/?s=COOKED+BREAKFAST\" target=\"_blank\"> breakfasts,<\/a> of which the Olympic Breakfast was one, and their most popular I&#8217;ve subsequently read.<\/p>\n<p>It was gargantuan, and there was no need to eat anything else for the rest of the day. It wasn&#8217;t just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavenderandlovage.com\/?s=bacon+and+eggs\" target=\"_blank\">bacon and eggs,<\/a> although there were lighter<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavenderandlovage.com\/?s=breakfast\" target=\"_blank\"> breakfast <\/a>menu choices. <\/p>\n<p>The Olympic Breakfast remained more or less the same since it was introduced in 1994, with the odd tweak here and there, especially when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/lifeandstyle\/wordofmouth\/2009\/jan\/19\/big-chef-little-chef-heston-blumenthal\" target=\"_blank\">Heston Blumenthal<\/a> took the reins for a while.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-68796980\" target=\"_blank\">Little Chef closed its doors finally in 2017\/2018. <\/a>I feel very sad about its demise, as it was part of my childhood and has intrinsic links with my late parents and family. <\/p>\n<p>So, with memories of happy family times at the <a href=\"https:\/\/littlechef.fandom.com\/wiki\/Malton\" target=\"_blank\">Malton Little Chef,<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/littlechef.fandom.com\/wiki\/Staxton\" target=\"_blank\">Staxton Little Chef,<\/a> and for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavenderandlovage.com\/?s=father%27s+Day\" target=\"_blank\">Father&#8217;s Day,<\/a> I am sharing my take on their famous Olympic Breakfast. <\/p>\n<p>I hope you enjoy this whopping big breakfast if you make it &#8211; the essential components of the breakfast as shared below &#8211; Enjoy, Karen<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\t<!-- This is a button so it inherits theme styles --><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"mv-create-ingredients\">\n<h3 class=\"mv-create-ingredients-title mv-create-title-secondary\">Ingredients<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t2 x rashers of good smoked back bacon\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t1 x pork sausage\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t2 x free-range eggs\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t6 x mushrooms, trimmed and sliced or halved\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t2 x large cooked cold potatoes, sliced\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t1 x fresh tomato, halved\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tBaked beans (optional) \t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t1 x slice of toast or fried bread\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"mv-create-instructions mv-create-instructions-slot-v2\">\n<h3 class=\"mv-create-instructions-title mv-create-title-secondary\">Instructions<\/h3>\n<p>1. Heat a flat griddle over a low heat, over the top of 2 rings if it fits, and brush sparingly with dripping or vegetable oil. Or, use a large frying pan. Select a large dinner plate and and keep it warm in the oven. <\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Sausage<\/strong>: Add the sausage to the hot griddle and allow to cook slowly for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden. After the first 10 minutes, increase the heat to medium before beginning to cook the other ingredients. <\/p>\n<p>3.<strong> Bacon:<\/strong> Place the bacon straight on to the griddle and fry for 2-4 minutes each side or until your preferred crispiness is reached. Like the sausages, the cooked bacon can be kept hot on a plate in the oven.<\/p>\n<p>4. <strong>Mushrooms<\/strong>: Place the mushrooms on the grill plate and cook for 1-2 minutes before turning and cooking for a further 3-4 minutes. <\/p>\n<p>5. <strong>Tomato<\/strong>: Place cut-side down on the griddle and cook without moving for 4 minutes. Gently turn over and season again. Cook for a further 3-5 minutes until tender but still holding their shape.<\/p>\n<p>6. <strong>Eggs<\/strong>: Break the eggs straight onto the hot griddle. Cook to your liking, season and gently remove with a fish slice.<\/p>\n<p>7. <strong>Saut\u00e9ed potatoes:<\/strong> Add the slices of potatoes to the hot griddle and allow them to crisp up underneath before turning over and griddling until golden brown. <\/p>\n<p>8. <strong>Baked Beans<\/strong>: Heat the beans in a small saucepan until hot, or in the microwave. <\/p>\n<p>9. <strong>Fried bread if using:<\/strong> Add the bread and cook for 2-3 minutes each side until crispy and golden. If it&#8217;s too dry, add a little more oil or bacon drippings to the griddle or frying pan. <strong>For toast, <\/strong>drop the bread in the toaster just before serving. <\/p>\n<p>10.<strong> Serving:<\/strong> Once all the ingredients are cooked, serve on a warm plate and enjoy straight away with a good squeeze of tomato ketchup, Worcestershire sauce or brown sauce, and don\u2019t forget the toast and marmalade with a pot of good English Breakfast tea! <\/p>\n<p><em>NB: Serves 1 hungry person! A fine British tradition \u2013 and a meal to set you up for the day; there is a saying in the UK that goes like this: \u201cbreakfast like a King, lunch like a Queen and have supper like a pan &#8211; but an air fryer and grill could be used for some elements of this breakfast. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u><strong>History:<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p><em>Little Chef was started in 1958 by
