In her initial complaint, Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and retaliation. Lively claims that, among other things, Baldoni coerced her into performing intimate scenes without adequate notice and then attacked her reputation for speaking out.<\/p>\n<p>Baldoni later filed a counter-lawsuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, as well as the couple\u2019s publicist. Attorneys for Baldoni say that three colluded to ruin Baldoni\u2019s career tarnish his reputation by spreading unfounded rumors.<\/p>\n<p>Baldon\u2019s lawsuit was largely predicated in two claims: that Lively tried to \u201csteal\u201d the film from Baldoni, and that she engaged in a smear campaign against him.<\/p>\n<p>But, earlier this week, a U.S. federal court dismissed Baldoni\u2019s counter-lawsuit, which had sought compensation for extortion, defamation, and other alleged losses.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17303002\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17303002\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legalreader.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Scales-of-Justice-on-white-surface-image-by-Bazoom-AI..png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17303002\" src=\"https:\/\/www.legalreader.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Scales-of-Justice-on-white-surface-image-by-Bazoom-AI..png\" alt=\"Scales of Justice on white surface; image by Bazoom AI.\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\"\/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17303002\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Scales of Justice on white surface; image by Bazoom AI.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cPlaintiffs have no adequately alleged that Lively\u2019s threats were wrongful extortion rather than legally permissible hard bargaining or renegotiation of working conditions,\u201d U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Liman said that Baldoni failed to prove defamation because he and his studio, Wayfarer, \u201chave not alleged that Lively is responsible for any statements other than the statements\u201d made in her lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>The court also dismissed claims against the <em>New York Times<\/em>, which Baldoni had accused of collaborating with Lively and Reynolds in launching a \u201csmear campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe alleged facts indicate that the <em>Times<\/em> reviewed the available evidence and reported, perhaps in a dramatized manner, what it believed to have happened,\u201d wrote Liman. \u201cThe <em>Times<\/em> had no obvious motive to favor Lively\u2019s version of events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lively and her legal team have since posited the ruling as \u201ca total victory and a complete vindication for Blake Lively, along with those that Justin Baldoni and Wayfarer Parties dragged into their retaliatory lawsuit, including Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Sloane, and <em>The New York Times<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The actress also took to social media to share her thoughts on the verdict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike so many others, I\u2019ve felt the pain of a retaliatory lawsuit, including the manufactured shame that tries to break us,\u201d she wrote in an Instagram post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the suit against me was defeated, so many don\u2019t have the resources to fight back,\u201d she wrote, saying that she is \u201cmore resolved than ever to continue to stand for every woman\u2019s right to have a voice in protecting themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liman\u2019s dismissal was made without prejudice, meaning that Baldoni is free to amend and refile a lawsuit related to alleged contractual interference by June 23.<\/p>\n<h2>Sources<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cewxj0qw2p9o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni: What you need to know<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cp3n0d115n0o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Judge dismisses Justin Baldoni\u2019s $400m defamation lawsuit against Blake Lively<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/justin-baldonis-lawsuit-blake-lively-dismissed-federal-judge\/story?id=122660022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Justin Baldoni\u2019s lawsuit against Blake Lively dismissed by federal judge<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cPlaintiffs have no adequately alleged that Lively\u2019s threats were wrongful extortion rather than legally permissible hard bargaining or renegotiation of working conditions,\u201d wrote U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman wrote.
