The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)<\/span><\/a>, the nation\u2019s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the<\/span> <\/span>Islamophobic targeting<\/strong><\/span><\/a> of a <\/strong><\/span>New jersey representative of the Sikh faith by Republican Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL)<\/strong><\/span><\/a> <\/span>who said it was \u201cdeeply troubling that a Muslim was allowed to lead prayer in the House of Representatives.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n [NOTE<\/strong>: CAIR noted that bigots often mistake Sikhs for Muslims because Sikh men wear turbans.]<\/span><\/p>\n Rep. Miller posted \u2013 then deleted \u2013 that Islamophobic message on X<\/strong><\/span><\/a> <\/span>saying that Giani Singh \u201cshould never have been allowed\u201d to offer the House\u2019s morning invocation and claimed, \u201cAmerica was founded as a Christian nation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n SEE: <\/strong><\/span>Republican said Sikh should not be allowed to deliver House prayer<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Outrage after Republican representative disparages Sikh prayer in the US House<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n In a statement,\u00a0CAIR-NJ Executive Director Selaedin Maksut<\/strong>\u00a0said:<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt is deeply troubling that a member of Congress would be so ignorant of the diverse faiths in our nation and would express that ignorance by targeting a respected representative of the Sikh community with Islamophobic smears. This disturbing incident once again shows that bigotry is rooted in lack of understanding of others.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSuch reckless rhetoric not only endangers Muslim and Sikh communities, it also undermines the core values of what it means to be American. We call on Rep. Miller to apologize for these anti-Muslim remarks and commit to educating herself on the religious diversity that strengthens our nation.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Earlier today,<\/span> <\/span>CAIR called on Congress to censure Florida Congressman Randy Fine after he made yet another racist attack on Palestinians<\/span><\/a>,<\/span> saying they have \u201cmental defects.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n When a Florida journalist asked him about his recent call to use nuclear weapons to destroy Gaza, Fine reportedly said:<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt shows the sophistication of the Muslim-terror media that they are able to convince people like you to interpret (it that way). \u2026 <\/em>Now I recognize that half of people in Gaza are married to their cousins, so you\u2019re going to find a lot of people with mental defects.<\/em><\/strong> But you\u2019ve got to have a mental defect to interpret the comment that way.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n SEE: <\/strong><\/span>Does Randy Fine support nuking Gaza?
