\nSo I haven\u2019t written anything new in about a year. Not sure why, just haven\u2019t. I
\nstarted this one last year while listening to a local songwriter sing this song
\nhe wrote and made me start thinking about my friends who had died way too young.
\nSo buckle up, y\u2019all know this gonna be a good one for two reasons. One because I
\nhaven\u2019t written in a while and two because I\u2019m talking about my friends.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cPreacher said he died too young over there totin\u2019 that gun for Uncle Sam and
\nour freedom.\u201d Brantley Gilbert \u201cOne Hell Of a Amen\u201d. I haven\u2019t known anyone that
\nI can think of that died in war but I know plenty that have fought for my
\nfreedom. I can\u2019t imagine how parents feel seeing their child go off to war not
\nknowing if they would return or not. My daddy was in the Korean War but Lord
\nhave mercy that was a hundred years ago. Just kidding but after all my daddy is
\nold. I had never asked daddy much about his time in the Army but a couple of
\nweeks ago something started us talking about it. It was very interesting the
\nthings he told us about where he was, how long he was at different stations and
\nhow homesick he was. I can\u2019t imagine seeing my son leave for the service and I
\ncertainly can\u2019t imagine seeing him off to war. So for all those mothers who have
\nbeen in those shoes you have to be just as strong as those soldiers off to war
\nand I thank you. I thank you for your sons\/daughter sacrifice for my freedom. To
\nthose mothers\/parents that have received that folded flag, bless you and thank
\nyou that your child sacrificed his life for my freedom.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDoctor said he ain\u2019t
\ngot long. He just smiled said bring it on. Well if you think I\u2019m scared you got
\nme all wrong. No, a little cancer can\u2019t break me. My heart\u2019s right and I
\nbelieve. Naw he never gave up said the good Lord\u2019s waitin\u2019. That\u2019s the only way
\nto go, rightin\u2019 the good fight til the good Lord calls you home. So be well
\nfriend \u2018til I see you again. Yeah this is our last goodbye It\u2019s a hell of an
\namen.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
I have lost lots of friends to cancer and it just SUCKS!!! Yes that may
\nbe a harsh word but it SUCKS.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve written about this friend many times, but as
\nMr. Mike sung this song on Sunday the tears came. Yep I\u2019ve heard this song a
\nmillion times but this time it brought on a whole new meaning. This time he
\nreminded me once again how strong my friend Andrew was in his fight with cancer.
\nHe never gave up and he never quit fightin.\u2019 So many times he would have to
\ncancel plans but that was OK because as soon as he was feeling better, he was
\nright back at it again. Right back at enjoying life the best he good, right back
\nat making me laugh and most importantly right back loving his family and
\nspending as much time with them as he could and of course flying that dadgum
\nTennessee flag. The last few days I\u2019m not sure he knew we were at the hospital
\nbut it didn\u2019t matter to me. I wanted to be there because he would have done that
\nfor me. The one regret I have is the day he called and I missed the phone call.
\nThe call that I had prayed I would never hear and that was his time was nearing
\nthe end. His message I will forever remember when he said the doctors had called
\nhis family in and he wanted me to know. OMG when I heard the message I went
\nstraight to the hospital. I\u2019ve never been so happy to see this man still
\nsmiling. Still talking that I got to hear that voice one more time. The wink
\nfrom him that will always, always be the best wink EVER. I\u2019m pretty sure this
\nsong was written after my friend had passed away but I can just hear him if he
\ncould speak to me today say\u2026 that was one hell of an amen! One hell of an amen
\nto his life and how he lived it, one hell of an amen to his family that saw him
\nso courageous and I can really hear him that he has a grandson and twins on the
\nway. He would be such a good grandpa. And what would tickle me more is me
\ncalling him grandpa. So in spirit of my friend and this song\u2026that\u2019s one hell of
\nan amen.<\/p>\n
\u00a0LESSON TODAY? As usual I don\u2019t have a clue but let\u2019s just go with
\nwhatever you do in life make sure you would say it\u2019s \u201cONE HELL OF AN AMEN\u201d. Do
\ngood, be kind and I don\u2019t care if you\u2019re my age which is about 60ish respect
\nyour mama and daddy if you\u2019re lucky enough to still have them. I want the person
\nspeaking at my funeral to say\u2026\u201dIf Sherry could speak to us right now about her
\nlife, I know she would say \u201cthat was one hell of an amen.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
