French directors helmed the winning films in the shorts and feature animation categories.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Ugo Bienvenu,\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">comic artist and animation director (his first feature film), took the Cristal for Best Animation Feature at Annecy with &#8216;Arco&#8217;, a sci-fi Utopian story between a boy falling from the sky and a 10-year-old girl.<\/span>\u00a0The film already proved popular with the Annecy audience (extra screenings were arranged) for this colorful feature.<\/p>\n<p>The world of Alexeieff\/Parker pinscreen got its due via the French director <strong>Pierre Luc-Granjon<\/strong> and his impressively empathetic &#8216;The Night Boots&#8217;. The story of a child slipping into his Wellington boots and meeting strange solitary creatures was awarded the Cristal for Best Animation Short -and managed to win over animation names such as <strong>Theo Ushev<\/strong> (My Life with an Idiot), <strong>Priit &amp; Olga P\u00e4rn<\/strong> (Luna Rossa), and <strong>Bruno Collet <\/strong>(Atomik Tour).<\/p>\n<p>Asian features got acknowledgement:\u00a0 &#8216;ChaO&#8217; by <strong>Yasuhiro Aoki<\/strong>, a romance story of humans and mermaids won the Jury Award for\u00a0 a Feature film; whereas, in the Contrechamp category (a mixed bag of auteurish, quirky or otherwise unacknowledged films), &#8216;The Square&#8217; by Korean director <strong>Bo-Sol Kim<\/strong>, a story of romance and espionage.<\/p>\n<p>In the same category, the winner was the Canadian 2D animation &#8216;Endless Cookie&#8217; by <strong>Seth Scriver<\/strong> (Asphalt Watches) and <strong>Pete Scriver<\/strong>, a quirky portrait of two half-brothers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A French film was also the recipient of the Cristal for Best Graduation Film: L\u00e9na Martinez with her 2D animation &#8216;Zootrope&#8217; reinvents a zoo visit, and its inhabitants. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zippyframes.com\/tags\/ryo-orikasa\">Ryo Orikasa<\/a> (of &#8216;Miserable Miracle&#8217;) scooped the Off-Limits Award for a Short film with his animated poem rendition of Makoto Takayanagi (read by the poet) in &#8216;The Graffiti&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biggest festival snub: <\/strong>no awards or distinctions at all for the Berlinale-premiered puppet feature film &#8216;The Tales of Magic Garden&#8217; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zippyframes.com\/interviews\/we-searched-for-a-kind-of-harmony-tales-from-the-magic-garden-interview\">our interview with the creators<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h4><em\/><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The Full List of 2025 Annecy Festival Awards<br \/><\/em><br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Feature films<\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>Cristal for a Feature Film: Arco, Ugo Bienvenu (France, pr.
