If you employ someone, even a sole nanny or a cleaner, you will be expected to provide them with a workplace pension.<\/p>\n<p>This is compulsory, and employees will be automatically enrolled into a workplace pension if they meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Not already in a workplace pensions scheme<\/li>\n<li>Aged over 22 but below State Pension age<\/li>\n<li>Earn more than \u00a310,000 a year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Do you have anyone working for you that matches that description? If so, you need to enrol them. Fortunately, it\u2019s not hard to do when you have the right software.<\/p>\n<h2>What is automatic enrolment?<\/h2>\n<p>In recent years, it has become apparent that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pensionsadvisoryservice.org.uk\/about-pensions\/the-state-pension\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> will not be enough to support people in their retirement. As a result, employees are now expected to create their own private pension provision and employers are expected to contribute.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kashflow.com\/auto-enrolment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to learn more about automatic enrolment.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kashflow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/coins-1523383_960_720.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-77985 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kashflow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/coins-1523383_960_720.jpg\" alt=\"Workplace pensions will join your spare change in your retirement fund\" width=\"326\" height=\"217\"\/><\/a><\/h2>\n<h2>Key dates for automatic enrolment<\/h2>\n<p>This law was introduced to larger businesses in October 2012 and will apply to all employers by 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses have been given dates, called staging dates, by which they must have enrolled all eligible employees. All businesses will need to have done this before 1<sup>st<\/sup> February 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Wondering if you\u2019ve missed your staging date? The employee provides 0.8%\u00a0from their\u00a0wages, you provide 1%\u00a0as an employer, and the remaining 0.2% is tax relief.<\/p>\n<p>This minimum contribution applies to anything earned over \u00a35,876 and below \u00a345,000 in the tax year 2017\/2018.<\/p>\n<p>So as a minimum, you\u2019ll need to provide 1% of the difference between \u00a35,876 and your employee\u2019s wage. In 2018, these figures will change as the final staging dates come into effect.<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s changed in 2017?<\/h2>\n<p>As of March 2017, The Pension\u2019s Regulator have been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lexology.com\/library\/detail.aspx?g=88c76de9-8671-492a-b602-74a004e79d42\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">performing spot checks<\/a> to ensure businesses are compliant. Heavy fines are now being issued to businesses that have missed their staging date.<\/p>\n<p>It is predicted that 598,126 employers have enrolled their staff and just under eight million employees now have a workplace pension.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2017, a scam involving false certificate for \u201cauto enrolment exemption\u201d emerged.\u00a0The Pension\u2019s Regulator do not approve these documents.
