Selway, a financial markets expert who has worked extensively on blockchain technology, will map the regulation of broker-dealers. He will also map the regulation of stock exchanges and other market participants. His appointment is a sign of a shift to accommodative innovative financial technologies in regulation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Selway\u2019s Extensive Market Experience<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Selway brings decades of expertise to the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SEC<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Just recently, he was an employee at Sophron Advisors, where he provided market strategy advice to clients. He held high jobs at Blockchain.com, a large cryptocurrency platform and BATS Global Markets, a stock exchange operator worldwide. He also honed his electronic brokerage skills during his tenure as a managing director at Investment Technology Group.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins praised Selway\u2019s appointment. Atkins commented that his wide experience in asset classes would improve their markets. Selway stated that he was thrilled with the job and would make sure that he promoted innovation besides protecting investors. His background positions him to fix emerging problems in digital assets and market structure.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Strategic Appointments Under New Leadership<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SEC also <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">appointed <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Brian T. Daly as the Director of Division of Investment Management. Daly is an extremely experienced professional in the sphere of securities law and crypto regulation, having previously worked at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer &amp; Feld LLP as a partner. These picks point to how the agency is prioritizing the modernization of oversight when it comes to the leadership of Atkins, who was sworn in by the Senate in April 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Selway\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">crypto <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ties have drawn attention. He worked at Blockchain.com as the head of institutional markets, where he had to operate in complex regulatory conditions. This experience is timely as SEC seeks to provide regulation clarity on digital assets, which has been one of the priorities following years of legal battles with crypto firms. The route taken by the agency under Atkins is balance between innovation and investor protection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The University of Chicago awarded Selway a Master of Science degree in financial mathematics, and Washington &amp; Lee University awarded him a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and European history. In addition to chairing the National Organization of Investment Professionals and serving on industry groups, he has testified before committees in Congress. His varied experience makes him fit to tackle the problems in the division.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Swap dealers and clearing houses are important infrastructure which are overseen by the Division of Trading and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Markets<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The role that Selway will undertake will be development of policies which will ensure that there is an efficient and transparent market. His past advisory work in fintech companies like Protego Holdings and AllofUs Financial, both of which operate at the intersection of traditional finance and new technologies, also emphasizes his expertise.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These are strategic appointments by the SEC after it willingly reduced its staff numbers, which has left the Trading and Markets division with few staff.A team\u2019s stability and strength are the goals of Selway leadership. His whistleblower action in 2010 at Investment Technology Group where he informed the firm of improper use of client data also depicts that he tends to uphold ethical practices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">External perspectives underscore the significance of Selway\u2019s appointment. The SEC is also adopting a more crypto-friendly leadership, explained by the shifts in overall policy in the view of recent Reuters analysis on the digital asset regulation. His role can have an impact on the market confidence and openness, particularly in the cryptocurrencies, including, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bitcoin <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and Ethereum<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Selway\u2019s vision includes promoting fair and orderly markets.
