There are travel experiences you book because they\u2019re convenient.<\/p>\n

And then there are those rare ones you choose because they promise\u00a0magic<\/strong>\u00a0and whisper that life might slow down, unfold, and surprise you\u00a0along the way.<\/p>\n

That was\u00a0precisely\u00a0what we found aboard the\u00a0Song Xanh Sampan<\/strong>. This private traditional boat carried us through the heart of Vietnam\u2019s Mekong Delta and, eventually, onward by another\u00a0boat\u00a0to Cambodia.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve ever dreamed of discovering hidden corners of Southeast Asia by boat, surrounded by nature, culture, and the rhythms of river life, this journey is something you need to experience at least once.<\/p>\n

When Was the Seed Planted<\/h2>\n

Back in 2022, we\u00a0were meant\u00a0to spend a month in Vietnam. Unfortunately, Luca broke his leg in Mongolia, the country we\u00a0were visiting\u00a0before arriving in Vietnam, so we had to change our plans.<\/p>\n

Instead of spending a month traveling around the country, we stayed 10 days in Hanoi. Don\u2019t get me wrong, we had a wonderful time there, but some of the things we dreamed of doing had to\u00a0be postponed,\u00a0one being\u00a0cruising on the Mekong.<\/p>\n

\"Memories\"Memories<\/figure>\n

Fast forward to 2025: we were in our month-long stay in Hoi An (I will dedicate a whole post to that, too!), and I was booking our flight\u00a0out\u00a0to Cambodia. There is a direct flight from Da Nang to Siem Reap; however, my payment would not go through whenever I got to the payment page.<\/p>\n

After so many years of traveling, we\u2019ve learned to take that as a\u00a0sign<\/strong>\u00a0that our plans need to shift.<\/p>\n

So\u00a0we ended up booking a flight to Ho Chi Minh City instead. Then I found some Mekong cruises that were not too expensive and could cross into Cambodia, but the dates didn\u2019t work out. Finally, I was offered this private\u00a0Song Xanh Sampan cruise<\/strong>\u00a0with the option to then cross over with a speedboat (since the sampans themselves stay in Vietnam).<\/p>\n

There was only one date available, and it worked\u00a0perfectly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

That was our sign!<\/p>\n

Setting Sail: Stepping Into Another World<\/h2>\n

Our journey began at the\u00a0Phu An Jetty in Cai Be<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

We\u00a0were welcomed\u00a0by our guide, who showed us the variety of plants and fruits that grow in this area. Thanks to the Mekong Delta, I had no idea how lush it could be!<\/p>\n

We then went for a\u00a0bike ride<\/strong>\u00a0along the small roads of the area, visited a\u00a0temple<\/strong>, and finally made our way to\u00a0Le Longanier<\/strong>, a beautiful colonial villa hidden in the greenery, for a delicious lunch.<\/p>\n

Finally, it was time to board the\u00a0Song Xanh Sampan,\u00a0<\/strong>a beautiful traditional wooden boat with wooden furniture, open decks, and cozy cabins. It was so welcoming!<\/p>\n

We could finally\u00a0relax. The hustle of modern life faded. Here, time moved with the water.<\/p>\n

Our small but incredibly attentive crew welcomed us with cool towels and warm smiles. From the start, it was clear: this wasn\u2019t just transportation.<\/p>\n

It was a\u00a0floating home<\/strong>\u00a0carefully curated for comfort, privacy, and immersion. Every detail felt thoughtfully planned.<\/p>\n
