Select The Report<\/h3>\n

For the purposes of this exercise, we will work with the profit and loss report.<\/p>\n

Navigate to the Reports<\/strong> section on the left-hand menu and choose Profit and Loss<\/strong>. This core report shows your income and expenses over a defined period and is a great starting point for customization.<\/p>\n

Set the Right Time Period<\/h3>\n

The default date range may not always be what you need\u2014it could be last month, this fiscal year, or something else. You can:<\/p>\n

    Export and Share Reports to Save Time<\/h3>\n

      Accounting Method<\/strong>: Although most of you will be using the accrual method (except for commission salespeople and farmers in Canada), you can toggle between accrual and cash basis , if necessary (perhaps for analysis of cash flow or to show a stakeholder). <\/p>\n

      Number Format<\/strong>: Choose how negatives appear. I prefer red and in brackets.<\/p>\n

      Columns<\/strong>: Adjust to show years, quarters, customers, and more<\/p>\n

      These options help create reports that are easier to view and glean insights.<\/p>\n

      Filter Based on Your needs<\/h3>\n

      Use filters to view:<\/p>\n

        Save Time with Saved Custom Reports<\/h3>\n

        Once your report is set up just how you like it, you can save it as a custom report. <\/p>\n

            Drill Down to See Details of Transaction in Accounts<\/h3>\n

            Click any line item (e.g., \u201cConsulting Services\u201d) to view the underlying transactions. From there:<\/p>\n

            It\u2019s a fast and effective way to answer specific financial questions.<\/p>\n

            Final Thoughts<\/h3>\n
