President Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador (\u201cAMLO\u201d) of Mexico really likes watches but, as President, he liked to stress that he was a man of the people, by pointing to a more affordable, functional watch on his own wrist. And the watch he chose was a Momentum Atlas 38 in titanium, on a simple black leather strap. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif; color: black;\" lang=\"EN-US\">AMLO was well known for making himself accessible to answer questions and held daily press conferences throughout his time as President of Mexico. At his final press conference before stepping down, AMLO decided to <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Q5Z01pPwoEM?t=5451\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raffle off his Momentum watch<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Q5Z01pPwoEM?t=5451\"> <\/a><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif; color: black;\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>to one of the 86 journalists and photographers in attendance. The lucky winner of the raffle was reporter Julio Omar G\u00f3mez, of the website \u201cSin Punto ni Coma\u201d who received the President\u2019s watch in a very emotional handover from AMLO.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0540\/8768\/0178\/files\/AMLO_Atlas_38_re-release_2025.jpg?v=1738275606\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif; color: black;\" lang=\"EN-US\"><br \/>After the press conference, Omar Gomez was approached by several colleagues and interested parties, wanting to buy the President\u2019s watch from him, and reportedly offering up to 1 million Pesos (US $ 50,000.00) for it! He said he turned down all the offers, as the watch was of such enormous sentimental value to him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif; color: black;\" lang=\"EN-US\">The original Atlas 38 sold out a few months ago.
