Today I have a new pie-inspired beer coming from Epic<\/a> Brewing in Salt Lake City, UT<\/a>. <\/p>\n This is Pie & Beer Day Key Lime Pie Cream Ale<\/b> and it will be an ale with lime that will hit 7%-AbV. This is the 16oz can<\/a> and stay tuned for more details.\u00a0 zzubreebym<\/span><\/p>\n Back in 2009, Epic Brewing Company became Utah\u2019s first brewery since prohibition to exclusively brew high-alcohol content beer. <\/i><\/p>\n Intimidating, right? Remember, we\u2019re in Utah and adhere to Utah\u2019s definition of \u201chigh-alcohol beer.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n Back in those days, the state considered any beer over 4% ABV a \u201cHigh-alcohol beer,\u201d aka \u201cHigh-point beer,\u201d or \u201cHeavy beer.\u201d It\u2019s still illegal for grocery stores and draft beer to be high-alcohol. High-alcohol beers must be purchased at state liquor stores and poured out of cans & bottles, or, purchased directly from the brewery.<\/i><\/p>\n But we couldn\u2019t wait for Utah to catch up with the rest of the country. So, we opened a tiny tasting room in our small brewhouse where we pour each and every one of our high-point beers, 2oz at a time.<\/i><\/p>\n We\u2019d put them on draft if it was legal!<\/i><\/p>\n Ever since, we\u2019ve pushed the boundaries of the craft beer industry.
