\u201cWhat is the point of all of this?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

That was the note I typed into my Notes app as my plane touched down in Nashville. I wasn\u2019t trying to be philosophical \u2014 I just was\u00a0feeling\u00a0<\/em>everything all at once. I had just spent five days in Maryland with my daughter, Grace, and her husband. While I was there, I gave myself permission to simply\u00a0be\u00a0<\/em>present.<\/p>\n

No schedule. No agenda. Not rushing ahead or catching up.<\/p>\n

Just present.<\/p>\n

Human.<\/p>\n

(I shared about it on Substack Notes and it went viral \u2192\u00a0READ<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n

But as the wheels hit the earth again, I felt the weight of real life and the shift from\u00a0being<\/em>\u00a0back to\u00a0doing<\/em>. From presence back to productivity. From lingering in the moment to checking off the next to-do item.<\/p>\n

And in that hollow pause as the plane went from the runway to the gate, from arrival to activity, I found myself wondering, \u201cIs all of life just one long (or short) goodbye?\u201d<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s when the tears welled up in my eyes.<\/p>\n

Goodbyes\u00a0are\u00a0<\/em>hard.<\/p>\n

But they\u2019re also beautiful. They mean we showed up. They mean we loved. They mean we gave time, energy, and presence to something or someone that mattered.<\/p>\n

Goodbyes are life in motion.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You don\u2019t often cry over what you never cared about.<\/p>\n

And to even get to a goodbye, you have to act.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t get to Maryland by hoping one day I\u2019d get there. I booked a flight, rearranged my schedule, packed\u00a0streamers<\/a>\u00a0for her birthday, and showed up.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s the truth, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s sooooo ridiculously easy to talk about life and what we hope to do\u00a0someday<\/em>. It\u2019s easy to dream and to wish. But, eventually, we must choose to do. To act. Even if life feels messy or inconvenient or even scary.<\/p>\n

As a writer, a creative, I live in ideas, and the hypothetical of what could be. I can feel them, love them, nurture them, get lost in them, but I also know how easy it is to stop short of action. Fear whispers the all-familiar lines:\u00a0What if it fails, Rachel? What if it\u2019s not enough? What if no one likes it? What if you\u2019re not enough?<\/em><\/p>\n

Lately (or at least for the past couple of years), I\u2019ve been diligent about facing that fear and dismantling those whispers. (Read about my firewalk<\/a>\ud83d\udd25).<\/p>\n

Do you know what I\u2019m learning?<\/p>\n

There is a sacred space between being and doing.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a life rhythm of both\/and. In fact, so much of my writing here has been exploring the duality of life. It\u2019s not just hustle. Not just contemplating.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s alignment.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s the gem I\u2019m starting to hold more gently, more firmly, in my own hands.<\/p>\n

And maybe that\u2019s the point of it all.<\/p>\n

To love so deeply that goodbye brings tears.<\/p>\n

To live so fully that presence leaves an imprint.<\/p>\n

To act, even when afraid.<\/p>\n

To find the sacred rhythm between being and doing.<\/p>\n

To keep showing up for this imperfect, beautiful life.<\/p>\n

This is it.<\/p>\n

Not\u00a0someday<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Today. This is our life.<\/p>\n

And the tears, the ache in our chest, the bittersweet moments when we part?<\/p>\n

It means we\u2019re\u00a0<\/strong>alive<\/strong><\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On this journey.<\/p>\n

With those we love.<\/p>\n
