The unit will seek to root out inefficiencies in 10 councils the party took control of in last month\u2019s local elections.<\/p>\n<p>Farage, Reform leader, said Yusuf would also take on a more public role with fundraising work and more frequent appearances in the media. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cZia will continue to be an important part of the team we are building to fight and win the next general election,\u201d he said. Yusuf\u2019s formal job title has not yet been decided.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a post on social media platform X, Yusuf said he still believed that Farage should become Britain\u2019s prime minister. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter 11 months of working as a volunteer to build a political party from scratch, with barely a single day off, my tweet was a decision born of exhaustion,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yusuf, who was appointed Reform chair after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/bca9e561-b12d-4ae5-966a-3ec7c0ad89e6\" data-trackable=\"link\">giving the fledgling party \u00a3200,000<\/a>, had sought to bring an element of professionalism to its ranks. But his efforts, including sackings, prompted criticism from some colleagues. He resigned on Thursday, saying that working for Reform was not a \u201cgood use\u201d of his time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His resignation came only a few months after a public battle between Farage and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/9907cf67-537c-4c7e-9e82-fe56cbafa282\" data-trackable=\"link\">Rupert Lowe<\/a>, briefly one of Reform\u2019s small group of MPs.<\/p>\n<p>Before Yusuf resigned, Sarah Pochin, Reform\u2019s newest MP, had urged prime minister Sir Keir Starmer to ban the burka \u201cin the interests of public safety\u201d. Yusuf, who is Muslim, said it was \u201cdumb for a party to ask the PM if they would do something the party itself wouldn\u2019t do\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, on Saturday Yusuf told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/uk\/politics\/article\/zia-yusuf-reform-uk-return-f2w9fs3xg\" data-trackable=\"link\">Sunday Times <\/a>newspaper he did not resign because he had strong views about the burka, even though he felt \u201cblindsided\u201d by Pochin\u2019s question. <\/p>\n<p>Instead, he said that even though he was \u201ca bit uneasy\u201d about bans in general, he would probably support a burka ban if he was an MP.<\/p>\n<p>Reform is expected to appoint a new chair in the coming days, as well as a deputy.<\/p>\n<p>The party is riding high in the opinion polls, having overtaken both the ruling Labour party and opposition Conservatives. In May it routed both parties in local and mayoral elections, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/bfe4a816-4550-4893-98a2-36c7973c2438\" data-trackable=\"link\">winning 677 council seats<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday Farage will give a speech in Port Talbot, south Wales, ahead of next year\u2019s Senedd elections in which Reform is expected to perform strongly.<\/p>\n<p>Yusuf said on Saturday that he had been \u201cinundated\u201d by messages from party members and supporters encouraging him to reconsider.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI left my business interests behind, I\u2019ve volunteered full-time, because I love my country and I believe the best way to save it and turn it into a great one is for Nigel to be prime minister,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt made me realise that in that moment I was turning my back on that, and I didn\u2019t want to do that. I realised I did have an important role to play. I spoke to Nigel and said I don\u2019t mind saying I made an error.
