\u201cFilms start with a fragment, a piece of the puzzle,\u201d director David Lynch<\/a> told\u00a0Wallpaper<\/em><\/a>\u2019s Will Hodgkinson in 2010. \u201cThe puzzle exists in the other room. I get hold of one piece, and I love it so much that it attracts other pieces to come in and join it. And pretty soon the puzzle is in my room. I certainly don\u2019t know what the film is about until further down the line.\u201d<\/p>\n

For avid viewers, Lynch\u2019s films like Blue Velvet<\/em> and Mulholland Drive<\/em>, as well as his television series \u201cTwin Peaks,\u201d have long remained puzzles, turning ideas that Lynch had fished from both dark and banal places in his mind into immersive, mysterious art.<\/p>\n

Now, real pieces of Lynch\u2019s puzzling films are on sale for the first time since his\u00a0death<\/a> in January. Nearly 450 items from the director\u2019s archives\u2014ranging from personal kitchen appliances to on-screen objects\u2014will come to auction on June 18 as part of \u201cThe David Lynch Collection<\/a>\u201d by Julien\u2019s Auctions.<\/p>\n
