Based on different studies, it may be assumed that headache as a coexisting condition may be a relevant factor in causing tinnitus and vice versa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Read below to understand different factors studied to understand the corelation of these conditions.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><i class=\"fas fa-arrow-right\"\/><\/span>What Is Tinnitus? <\/h2>\n<p class=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ehealthsquare.com\/why-causes-hearing-heartbeat-pulsatile-tinnitus-in-my-ear\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1434\">Tinnitus<\/a> is often described as ringing in the ears. It is the perception of sound without an actual external sound. It is a symptom of an underlying condition rather than a single disease.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Tinnitus can sound like roaring, clicking, hissing, or buzzing. It may be soft or loud, high-pitched or low-pitched. You might hear it in either one or both ears.<sup data-fn=\"07a7b53e-972c-47b3-b8b6-eb90809b0d1d\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"07a7b53e-972c-47b3-b8b6-eb90809b0d1d-link\" href=\"#07a7b53e-972c-47b3-b8b6-eb90809b0d1d\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Millions of people worldwide have tinnitus. It is a frequent disorder, which is reported by about 10% of the population.<sup data-fn=\"c21482ef-0411-40cf-a9d9-c46ddd8dcab9\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"c21482ef-0411-40cf-a9d9-c46ddd8dcab9-link\" href=\"#c21482ef-0411-40cf-a9d9-c46ddd8dcab9\">2<\/a><\/sup> People with severe tinnitus may have trouble hearing, working, or sleeping.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><i class=\"fas fa-arrow-right\"\/><\/span>What Are The Causes of Tinnitus? <\/h2>\n<p class=\"\">Tinnitus is a very distressing otological disorder (ear and hearing related problem). Sometimes, it accompanies symptoms that lower the quality of life, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ehealthsquare.com\/anxiety-attack-what-you-should-know-about-it\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1127\">anxiety<\/a>, depression, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ehealthsquare.com\/sleep-deprivation-and-its-effects-on-body\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"201\">insomnia<\/a>, hearing loss, and hyperacusis (extreme sensitivity to sound).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The severity of tinnitus is not necessarily related to its loudness or characteristics of how it affects you. \u00a0Most people with tinnitus are not significantly bothered by it. However, others experience headaches, anxiety, depression, and extreme life changes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The major causes that can affect the ear canal and cause the problem may include:<sup data-fn=\"a17ffc29-c410-4411-99c2-bf1a521657e8\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"a17ffc29-c410-4411-99c2-bf1a521657e8-link\" href=\"#a17ffc29-c410-4411-99c2-bf1a521657e8\">3<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Noise trauma (such as after concerts)<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Administration of ototoxic drugs (e.g., aminoglycosides, cisplatin, and salicylates)<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Neck injuries<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Head injuries<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><i class=\"fas fa-arrow-right\"\/><\/span>Tinnitus And Headache <\/h2>\n<p class=\"\">Tinnitus and headaches are often correlated, and some studies suggest that headaches may contribute to tinnitus.\u00a0Disturbances in the central nervous system may cause both conditions.\u00a0This correlation has different aspects, and other studies support it.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">People with a history of migraines are more likely to experience tinnitus.\u00a0Up to 45% of people with tinnitus also have migraines.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Between 26% and 47% of people with tinnitus also have headaches.\u00a0Headaches are more common in people with severe tinnitus.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><i class=\"fas fa-arrow-right\"\/><\/span>How Can Tinnitus Causes Headache? <\/h2>\n<p class=\"\">Tinnitus is strongly associated with anxiety, depression, and stress and even with an increased risk of suicide attempts. The combination of these psychological comorbidities with tinnitus has a significant impact on quality of life.<br \/>Along with these health problems, headaches also have an impact on tinnitus. Recent studies reveal a high prevalence of headaches (26\u201356%) in children, adolescents, and people with tinnitus.<sup data-fn=\"1eb1a36d-c738-4895-a9b6-1a09f36b9b35\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"1eb1a36d-c738-4895-a9b6-1a09f36b9b35-link\" href=\"#1eb1a36d-c738-4895-a9b6-1a09f36b9b35\">4<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The pathophysiology of tinnitus is derived from a failure to adapt to missing sensory information. Concomitant with hearing loss, the brain attempts to compensate for the decreased sensory input, causing an increased neural activity (a pathway that connects brain and body) in the hearing pathway resulting in headache.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Other structures, such as the amygdala (a brain region associated with emotions), have been shown to interact with the auditory pathway in tinnitus patients. Mechanisms involved in chronic pain have also been evidenced in tinnitus.<sup data-fn=\"5a1bc93e-9675-4af1-8488-079a2bff64a5\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"5a1bc93e-9675-4af1-8488-079a2bff64a5-link\" href=\"#5a1bc93e-9675-4af1-8488-079a2bff64a5\">5<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Other studies show that headache and tinnitus also share common mechanisms characterized by abnormal brain activity changes. Furthermore, alterations in the trigeminal system (a nerve system that sends signals between the face and brain) form a basis for developing headaches, migraines, and tinnitus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Another factor can include trigeminal nerve (a nerve that sends signals between the face and brain) inflammation, which can increase swelling and inflammation in the brain and inner ear, which can cause headaches and tinnitus symptoms.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><i class=\"fas fa-arrow-right\"\/><\/span>Can Tinnitus Cause Migraine? <\/h2>\n<p class=\"\">Headaches are of different types, and migraine is a common primary headache disorder. Since headaches are very common problem. The co-occurrence of tinnitus and migraine could be coincidental. However, two longitudinal studies show that a history of migraine is a risk factor for the development of tinnitus.<sup data-fn=\"807d3134-3149-4bd5-bf35-6d476ccf85a6\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#807d3134-3149-4bd5-bf35-6d476ccf85a6\" id=\"807d3134-3149-4bd5-bf35-6d476ccf85a6-link\">6<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Common triggers such as stress, sleep disturbances, and diet can cause both tinnitus and migraines.\u00a0During migraine attacks, the trigeminal nerve activates the part of the brain that controls the auditory (ear canal) pathway, which can increase sensitivity and cause tinnitus.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><i class=\"fas fa-arrow-right\"\/><\/span>A Word From Writer <\/h2>\n<p class=\"\">Headaches have been related to tinnitus, yet little is known on how headaches impact tinnitus. Headaches have been suggested as an important co-factor for tinnitus but there is limited knowledge on how tinnitus and headache are related.
