Chad \u201cChig\u201d Martin, a businessman from Enterprise, Alabama, has decided to campaign one last time. After running once before with almost no support and finishing exhausted, he vowed he wouldn\u2019t do it again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis will be my second and final attempt at office,\u201d said Martin. \u201cYou do something like this because you want to. They said, \u2018You need to try it one more time. So here I am.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His openness also extends across party lines. Though running as a Democrat, Martin says his supporters include Republicans, Libertarians, and independents. Martin\u2019s campaign is grounded in lived experience, not political pedigree. Over his lifetime, he built multiple small businesses and eventually founded Honeysuckle Hemp, Alabama\u2019s first hemp company.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen I started small businesses, I was sales, accounting, shipping, receiving\u2014I did it all. That\u2019s what makes me really a multifaceted businessman,\u201d said Martin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That foundation informs his approach to governance. He believes leadership means listening and surrounding yourself with smart, humble people. What Martin wants to do with that leadership is focused and direct.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A major priority is job creation, especially in underserved areas like Alabama\u2019s Black Belt, where economic opportunity has been neglected. He believes the state should invest in infrastructure that attracts industry, specfically top-earning technology and manufacturing jobs. He stressed that economic development is not just about numbers\u2014it\u2019s about dignity, healthcare access\u00a0 and community stability.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cGainful employment is how you solve these things naturally. Without subsidies. Without handouts,\u201d said Martin.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-6\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div class=\"zox-post-ad-wrap\"><span class=\"zox-ad-label\">Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a hemp business owner, Martin was personally impacted by HB 445, the bill that effectively banned smokable hemp products in Alabama. He\u2019s critical of what he sees as an unfair and inconsistent approach to medical cannabis in the state, where expensive regulations block small businesses from participating.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s been over three years, and we still can\u2019t get a natural product that grows in the ground into people\u2019s hands. That\u2019s government inefficiency, plain and simple,\u201d said Martin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He sees gambling and a state lottery as logical solutions for funding schools and driving entertainment dollars back into Alabama.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019m tired of building schools in Georgia and Tennessee while ours crumble,\u201d said Martin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Martin\u2019s campaign is centered around direct voter engagement. Without major donors or a fundraising machine, he holds events in public parks, streams Facebook Lives and takes questions until the very last one is answered. For Martin, this run isn\u2019t about flashy ads, endorsements or consultants. It\u2019s about connection, character and commitment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNobody can ever say I won\u2019t answer their question,\u201d said Martin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ultimately, Martin\u2019s candidacy rests on a simple premise. He\u2019s not trying to build a career in politics. He wants to do a job and then move on, saying it \u201cisn\u2019t about being governor for life\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-6\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div class=\"zox-post-ad-wrap\"><span class=\"zox-ad-label\">Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If there\u2019s one theme that ties his campaign together, it\u2019s that politics doesn\u2019t have to be cynical.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou don\u2019t have to be angry to be in politics.
