From bombing and tagging in Newark to spitting flames on Stretch & Bobbito, Rahem “Tame One” Brown was the voice of the underground an emcee who lived every line he spit.

Now almost two years after his passing, a new documentary titled “Under the Same Name: The Tame One Documentary” is being developed. Tame One wasn’t just an emcee. He was a stylewriting king from Fame City Crew, and one half of Artifacts, the duo behind “Wrong Side of Da Tracks” the writer anthem.

He was first cousin to Redman, collaborator with Cage, El-P, Aesop Rock, Del the Funky Homosapien, Sean Price, and more. A stylistic risk-taker who rhymed about the real, and the music industry without ever biting his tongue.

He repped Jersey. He repped boom bap. He repped authenticity in its true form. And while Tame may have never got the mainstream flowers he deserved, his impact is still etched everywhere, on walls, buses, trains, rhyme books, and blackbooks from Brick City to Berlin.

“Under the Same Name” is being independently produced by a team of NJ-based filmmakers, David Dowd (Division East), Kris Walter, and George Douglas Peterson (GDP) who worked with Tame and the culture he came from, also Tame’s mom, Darlene Harris, who is the executive producer of the film. The title itself is a nod to a lyric from “Wrong Side of Da Tracks,” referencing how Tame never separated his writer identity from his rap identity. He was always Tame One, on the wall and on the mic.

The film promises interviews, rare footage, and deep cultural context from those who knew him best.
