Four women, no sugar, and a friendship steeped in time, truth, and caffeine.

AND just like that, we’re no longer thirty-something TelCo warriors clutching coffee cups like lifelines — we’re fifty-something career women, still clutching coffee cups, only now they’re double shots of espresso, no sugar — because who needs sweet when you’ve already been served bitter in bulk?

These days, we read food labels, track blood pressure, and judge cafés by the comfort of their chairs. We were once the Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha of postpaid plans and subscriber complaints. Now, we’re in our fabulous 50s — except Judee, who’s still in her late 40s and legally forbidden from saying, “I feel old.”

Two years ago, I wrote about how we met decades ago, in cubicles and conference rooms, powered by coffee and corporate grit. We didn’t plan it — the friendship or the caffeine dependency. But like any great series, it brewed organically. Back then, how we took our coffee said everything: I was black and bold (still am), Zee needed sugar to match her energy, Stella was all about that smooth creaminess, and Judee wanted everything — cream, sugar, imagination, and a cinnamon stick.

Let me give you the Season Two rundown.

We’ve aged like single malt whiskey — a little drier, infinitely smoother, more complex, and still expensive to keep.

Zee has gone full Samantha on us — not the PR party girl, but the bold, black doppio queen who takes her espresso like her schedule: tight, strong, and preferably intravenous. She’s high-functioning, high-octane, and high-speed. If you catch her blinking, you imagined it. She lives a plane ride away, still in the same country but close only on messaging apps and memes.

Judee’s down to cream only. She’s mellowed, but her fire’s simply better managed. Think Charlotte with Miranda’s edge and Carrie’s comebacks. Of the four of us, she’s the one I see the most — we’re in the same city, same timezone, and same temptations (hello, coffee shops). We still catch up when schedules allow — most recently with old TelCo comrades — caffeine as the aperitif, cocktails over dinner, and conversations that lingered past the last call.

Stella still adds cream, no sugar — warm, consistent, no-fuss. She’s now based in a star-spangled-banner country, where coffee is plentiful and Tagalog is a superpower. She’s the sentimental one who prefers old-school over gadgets — especially if it involves her child’s creativity. She may not send long voice notes, but she shows up in all the ways that count. As for her budgeting skills? Let’s just say they’re more Carrie than Miranda.

And me? Still no sugar. Still narrating. Still sipping the truth black and hot. I’ve come to accept that I may be a Miranda-Carrie hybrid — always questioning, always writing, with the occasional Samantha-level sass when provoked.

Together, we’re no longer Four Women and a Coffee in a TelCo. We’re Four Women and a Cocktail in a Midlife Sitcom. Our group chats have shifted from “Who approved this memo?” to “Who’s free for brunch?” and “Who lobbied for that bill?”

Our SATC roles? We gave up choosing. Turns out, we’re all four — depending on the day, the deadline, and the drink. Because life isn’t always cosmopolitans and quotes; sometimes, it’s black instant coffee in a paper cup because there’s no other choice — and even then, we still take it strong.

But when we do meet up — even if just two of us at a time — the essence is still there: fiercely independent, sharply caffeinated, and unapologetically ourselves.

Because some friendships, like espresso, only get stronger over time.
Still brewing thoughts — no sugarcoating, just stories steeped in truth.
