{"id":276886,"date":"2025-06-06T10:02:37","date_gmt":"2025-06-06T10:02:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/business\/finance\/russia-launches-drone-and-missile-attack-on-ukraine\/"},"modified":"2025-06-06T10:02:37","modified_gmt":"2025-06-06T10:02:37","slug":"russia-launches-drone-and-missile-attack-on-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=276886","title":{"rendered":"Russia launches drone and missile attack on Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Stay informed with free updates<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description o3-type-body-base\"><span>Simply sign up to the <!-- -->War in Ukraine<!-- --> myFT Digest &#8212; delivered directly to your inbox.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"article__content-sign-up-iframe close\" scrolling=\"no\" id=\"signUpIframe\" data-prev-url=\"\/register\/in-article-sign-up?ft-content-uuid=2e1f379c-a346-4178-940d-86cca77048a7&amp;concept-id=8b9c78a1-2a6d-4e2f-9293-49f399f4f6ce\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>Russia fired 44 missiles and more than 400 drones across Ukraine overnight in the most significant\u00a0attack since a Ukrainian raid destroyed more than a dozen Russian strategic bombers thousands of kilometres from the frontline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were ballistic missiles, cruise missiles launched from the air and the ground as well as attack drones\u201d Yuriy Ihnat, spokesman for the Ukrainian air force, said on national television on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout 30 missiles were destroyed and up to 200 drones were shot down\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The air raid alert, which first sounded at 1am, was lifted about four hours later in Kyiv, with the assault lasting until the morning\u00a0in western and eastern Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Three first responders were killed in Kyiv while working at the site of one of the strikes, Ukraine\u2019s state emergency service said on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>More than 40 people were also injured across the country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on social media. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve done a lot together with the world to enable Ukraine to defend itself,\u201d he said. \u201cBut now is exactly the moment when America, Europe, and everyone around the world can stop this war together by pressuring Russia.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The attack came five days after a daring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/132e4327-11da-4412-b36b-7363604879e6\" data-trackable=\"link\">Ukrainian operation<\/a> destroyed at least 12 Russian bombers across four airfields. More than 100 drones hidden in trucks hit the air bases. <\/p>\n<p>Russian President Vladimir Putin later told US President Donald Trump that Moscow would respond to the Ukrainian raid.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, nearly 40,000 people were left without electricity after several Iskander ballistic missiles and drones hit the city of Chernihiv, 80km from the Russian border.<\/p>\n<p>In Kyiv, explosions rocked the city for several hours overnight as Ukrainian air defence worked to repel the attack. Videos on social media showed at least one building in the capital engulfed in flames.<\/p>\n<p>City officials reported that debris from a drone had also damaged a residential high-rise building. \u201cThere is a fire, rescuers are heading to the scene,\u201d Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv military administration, wrote on social media.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stay informed with free updates Simply sign up to the War in Ukraine myFT Digest &#8212; delivered directly to your inbox.
