How to Trust God in the Wilderness \u2013 Even When Things Feel Wildly Out of Control<\/strong><\/span>.<\/strong><\/h3>\nThe mayhem of May just ended, yet I\u2019m still reeling from the chaos of my calendar.<\/strong><\/p>\nHow about you?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\nWith the summer months approaching, we\u2019re supposed to be gearing up for a break from the busyness of life. However, it\u2019s hard to predict if the lull of activity will happen. And, if it does, will we find ourselves enjoying a much-needed break or be bored out of our minds, unable to handle a season of inactivity?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nBusyness has become our norm. <\/strong><\/p>\nIt\u2019s not just Maycember<\/i>, it\u2019s year-round. The constant barrage of distractions thrown at us throughout the day keeps us always on alert with notifications<\/i>, checklists, and more. It\u2019s hard to cope with silence, welcome the quiet, or entertain a little far niente<\/i> (Italian for the sweetness of doing nothing<\/i>).\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nHave We Lost the Art?<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\nWe\u2019ve simply forgotten the art of getting away from it all. We don\u2019t trust ourselves or anyone else enough to step away\u2014to do something wild like lay it down, let things rest, or remain undone. <\/strong><\/p>\nEven more, we\u2019re afraid to come back later, better for the break, and fully recharged because we relied on God to cover the chaos we\u2019ve created. <\/strong><\/p>\nWeirdly, surrender feels like losing control. However, feeling out of control brings us to our knees\u2013\u2013 exactly where God does His best work in us.<\/strong><\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/melanieredd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/trusting-God-when-things-feel-out-of-control-3.png\")
<\/h3>\nWhat if we broke away from our routine response and chose the wilder ways of God<\/strong><\/span>?<\/strong><\/h3>\nWhat if we walked away from it all for a moment, like Jesus did (see Mark 1 & 6, Luke 5, and Matthew 5 & 6)? <\/strong><\/p>\nAnd, what if you decided to take a walk on the wild side with God\u2013\u2013 bucked the system, rebelled against your to-do lists, and threw caution to the wind in exchange for the sweetness of doing nothing at all?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nJesus<\/i>\u00a0(to the disciples)<\/i>:<\/i>\u00a0<\/i>Let us go out into the wilderness for a while and rest.<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\nThe crowds gathered as always, and Jesus and the twelve couldn\u2019t eat because so many people came and went. <\/i>\u00a0<\/i>They could get no peace until they boarded a boat and sailed toward a deserted place.<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\nMark 6:31-32 The Voice\u00a0<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\nWould you willingly go to the wilderness<\/span>? <\/strong><\/h3>\nWould you wait on God and put your hope<\/a> in being helplessly inactive? Friend, Jesus is still beckoning us to come away to the deserted places today.<\/strong><\/p>\nSounds wild, doesn\u2019t it<\/strong><\/span>?<\/strong><\/h3>\nI promise. It\u2019s not what you think. Look closer and you\u2019ll see there\u2019s hope ahead.<\/strong><\/p>\nThe wilderness is often thought to be a lonely, deserted place where we\u2019re parched for lack of water and burned up (and out) by the scorching heat. Reminds me of how it feels to be caught up in the craziness of our ever-increasing schedules. <\/strong><\/p>\nCan you relate? The truth is, you don\u2019t have to be going through a major event to feel like you\u2019re in what many call a wilderness season<\/i>; sometimes life feels overwhelming in its everydayness.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nThe wilderness gets a bad\u00a0rap,\u00a0in my opinion, because I know better. I\u2019ve witnessed wonders in the wild. I\u2019ve been there to see hope rise from the intense\u00a0fire\u00a0threatening\u00a0to burn up every\u00a0good thing\u00a0I had to offer. When all seemed lost (including me), God showed up. And, friend, He promises to meet you there too.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nWhat if there\u2019s something more to be experienced in the unknown? What if making a change to your course could revive your soul?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nChange brings us out of our comfort zones and challenges our communication with our Creator and ourselves. As the conversations become deeper, the world gets drowned out. Our soul now quieted allows our confidence to blossom forth. We begin to trust God with the details of our lives.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nGood things grow in the desert when we let God tend to our souls.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\nInstead of going on wild goose chases that never get us where we long to be, we can go confidently into the wilderness with God. Something wild takes place when we get away with God.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nIn what seems to be a hopeless place, it shows us:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nW<\/span>onders in the wilderness (Isaiah 43:18-19)\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nI<\/span>ncreases our imagination by doing more than we could ask, think, or imagine (Ephesians 3:20)<\/strong><\/p>\nL<\/span>eaves us longing for the things of God, more of Him (Psalm 37:4)<\/strong><\/p>\nD<\/span>ares us to dream bigger or dream again with God (Proverbs 16:3)<\/strong><\/p>\nThough He tarry, God is working in the wild. <\/strong><\/p>\nTruly, it\u2019s in the waiting where we will see wonders beyond our imagination turn into the longings of our heart as we dare to dream again with God.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nHope is found out in the WILD \u2013 How to Trust God in the Wilderness<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\nSomehow, the unknown doesn\u2019t feel so scary when we truly trust in God\u2019s guiding hand. Knowing we have a beautiful inheritance. (Psalm 16:5) Like David, we can pray to see the goodness of God<\/a> in the land of the living. (Psalm 27:13)<\/strong><\/p>\nNow, that\u2019s a prayer God\u2019s happy to answer.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nIf we get quiet.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nIf we get away.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nWild hope will bloom because God planted it there before the beginning of time.
