(CHICAGO, IL, 6\/5\/25) <\/strong>\u2013 The Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago), the nation\u2019s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned <\/strong><\/span>President Trump\u2019s June 4 proclamation<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a> enforcing wide dragnet restrictions on entry into the United States for nationals from 19 Muslim-majority and African countries<\/strong>. The sweeping policy, signed under the pretext of protecting national security, echoes the discriminatory framework of the original 2017 Muslim Ban and unjustly targets marginalized communities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n CAIR-Chicago joins <\/span>CAIR<\/span><\/span><\/a> and national civil rights and immigrant justice organizations nationwide in denouncing the order as ideologically motivated, overbroad, and unnecessary<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This action comes as federal immigration enforcement in Chicago has escalated sharply this week, with ICE agents conducting raids in Pilsen and carrying out a mass arrest operation in the South Loop,<\/strong> deepening fear in our immigrant communities.<\/span><\/p>\n SEE: WGN-TV: Chicago officials raise concerns over federal immigration raids in Pilsen<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n SEE: Block Club Chicago: ICE Mass Arrest Sparks Chaos in South Loop as Activists Try to Disrupt Operation<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s smoke and mirrors. There is no evidence that birthplace determines behavior other than in racist textbooks. This is therefore not about national security, but politics. It\u2019s a lazy shortcut to the appearance of being tough, knowingly serving the base synthetic red meat,\u201d <\/em>said Ahmed Rehab<\/strong>, Executive Director of CAIR-Chicago. \u201cAll this actually does is put strain on families, businesses, schools and our economy without any palpable security benefit.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Heena Musabji<\/strong>, CAIR-Chicago\u2019s Legal Director, added:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cTo our communities: CAIR-Chicago is here for you.
