Nothing is stopping you from getting a real feel for what makes a Spanish capital so special, so whether you\u2019re drawn to its world-class art, historic architecture, lively plazas, or endless tapas, Madrid delivers.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Things to Know<\/h2>\n<p>Spain is very welcoming to families, but there are a few things you must take into account. First, I would honestly avoid July and August as it\u2019s too hot and busy to fully enjoy Madrid. <\/p>\n<p>One of the other most important things is that Spaniards eat dinner late.\u00a0The siesta is very much a part of daily life, and most shops and businesses shut down from around 2\/3 pm to usually 7:30-8 pm. Speaking of, public toilets are close to non-existent, so remember to pee the kids before heading out to explore the city.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ve only got a weekend, so if you\u2019re arriving early or leaving late, you need to free yourself from bulky bags by using <a href=\"https:\/\/radicalstorage.com\/luggage-storage\/madrid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">luggage storage Madrid<\/a> services. These are widely available near stations and key landmarks, and once that\u2019s sorted, you can experience the city in style.<\/p>\n<p>Metro and walking are the best ways to get around. This bustling square is Spain\u2019s Kilometre Zero, the point from which all national roads radiate. It\u2019s quite the lively starting point, so you don\u2019t want to be dragging your luggage with you. <\/p>\n<p>There are performers that kids will love, shops, and iconic buildings that are all there for you to snap a photo with. From here, you can walk to Plaza Mayor, which is just a few minutes away. This 17th-century square is surrounded by arcades and cafes, so you can grab a quick cafe con leche and a tostada con tomate while you soak in the vibe.<\/p>\n<p>Next, make your way to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Museo_del_Prado\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Museo del Prado<\/a>, Madrid\u2019s most renowned museum. It houses works by Spanish masters such as Goya, Velasquez and El Greco, alongside classics by Rubens, Bosch and Titian. Prado can be fun with kids as well when you turn your visit into a treasure hunt.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve soaked in all that culture, start stretching your legs in nearby El Retiro Park. Once a royal garden, it\u2019s now a public retreat that\u2019s packed with monuments, fountains, and tree-lined paths. You could rent a rowboat, play soccer with the local kids, or relax in the shade with an ice cream. There are also numerous smaller playgrounds around the park.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"801\" src=\"https:\/\/annaeverywhere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Madrid2-1200x801.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44609\" srcset=\"https:\/\/annaeverywhere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Madrid2-1200x801.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/annaeverywhere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Madrid2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/annaeverywhere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Madrid2-1536x1025.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/annaeverywhere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Madrid2.jpg 1798w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\"\/><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 2 in Madrid<\/h2>\n<p>Start your second day by wandering down the Barrio la Latina. It\u2019s a beautiful old neighborhood that offers tapas at every twist and turn, so stop for brunch.<\/p>\n<p>If this is your Sunday, make sure to check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylifemadrid.com\/rastro-flea-market-tips\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">El Rastro Flea Market<\/a>, which is an open-air bazaar sprawling through the streets, perfect for unique souvenirs and people watching. Kids can pick up little trinkets with their pocket money there.<\/p>\n<p>After eating, you should give your kids a special activity. I recommend Faunia, one of the\u00a0capital\u2019s largest natural spaces. The place is split into four zones with animals like crocodiles, lions, and kangaroos. <\/p>\n<p>With older kids, most would head to Warner Park with multiple roller coasters and rides. However, if you fancy making a day trip to Toledo instead, you shouldn\u2019t miss Puy du Fou Espa\u00f1a instead. It\u2019s just like the French original park, Puy du Fou, with historically themed shows that are out of this world. We were absolutely blown away by the quality and so were the kids. Honestly, we can\u2019t wait to return.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/puydufouespana.com\/espana\/files\/s3fs-public\/homepage\/main-image\/home-1_3.jpg?VersionId=LVdU1ZFpu9lA4OhqB1JN_gH6csmCyRtX\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p>Madrid may not seem as flashy as some of the European capitals out there, but give it 48 hours and it will surprise you with its depth.
