Amnesty International has described the ban as a <em>\u201cdiscriminatory violation of women\u2019s rights.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Frederiksen\u2019s comments follow recommendations by the Commission for the Forgotten Women\u2019s Struggle, which earlier this year urged the government to extend the veil ban to educational institutions. The same commission proposed banning hijabs in primary schools in 2022, but that plan was dropped in 2023 after public protests.<\/p>\n<p>Bans on face coverings have become more widespread across the EU, with France having introduced the first such measure in 2011.
