Applications filed after April 27, 2025, with complete income data are being turned around in under a week. These applications remain paused due to <a href=\"https:\/\/thecollegeinvestor.com\/53840\/8th-circuit-court-blocks-save-student-loan-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">ongoing litigation over the SAVE plan<\/a> and pending guidance from the Department of Education. Borrowers in this group remain in administrative forbearance and are not being required to make payments.<\/p>\n<p>This means interest is not accruing, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thecollegeinvestor.com\/57908\/which-payments-and-periods-count-towards-pslf-and-buyback\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">time in forbearance would require PSLF buyback to qualify for PSLF<\/a>. That said, some borrowers may prefer to exit forbearance and request another plan, such as IBR or PAYE, to resume payments and make progress toward their repayment goals.<\/p>\n<p>To evaluate options, borrowers can use the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/loan-simulator\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Loan Simulator at StudentAid.gov<\/a> to compare plans and monthly payments. Once a new plan is selected and submitted with income documentation, processing is now faster and more reliable.<\/p>\n<p>For other borrowers, this can be a great time to improve the rest of their financial situation:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"\">\n<li>Pay off other debts<\/li>\n<li>Build an <a href=\"https:\/\/thecollegeinvestor.com\/3579\/emergency-funds\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">emergency fund<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Contribute to an IRA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While it is frustrating to not be making progress on your loan, this can be a great time to make progress elsewhere in your financial life.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper thrv_text_element\" data-type=\"\" data-css=\"tve-u-1973df18fbe\">\n<h2 class=\"\">What Should Borrowers Do Now?<\/h2>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Those who are eligible and want to apply should visit <a class=\"\">StudentAid.gov\/idr<\/a> to begin the process.<\/p>\n<p>This new processing time is a great opportunity for <a href=\"https:\/\/thecollegeinvestor.com\/54865\/pslf-buyback-delays-timeline-updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">those on track for PSLF<\/a> and want to continuing making progress without buy back.<\/p>\n<p>Borrowers still affected by <a href=\"https:\/\/thecollegeinvestor.com\/58271\/save-student-loan-plan-timeline-estimates\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">SAVE should keep monitoring their accounts and be prepared to act when the forbearance ends<\/a>.
