Today in the <strong>DaniReef LAB<\/strong> we test the new<strong> Keloray AL200<\/strong> (the big sister of the<strong> Keloray AL150<\/strong>, which we will test in the future), a modern fixture that promises excellent performance thanks to its<strong> 224 LEDs<\/strong> and its carefully crafted design.<\/p>\n<p>We got to know the company by observing some beautiful tanks under their LED fixtures, especially noting their production of powerful LED spotlights for public aquariums in <strong>China<\/strong>, which are truly massive. There are no LEDs specifically for simulating moonlight.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s in the box? We calculated the volumes covered by the three surfaces shown earlier. It\u2019s clear that moving the fixture farther decreases PAR values, but it also increases the illuminated area. This method attempts to consider the total light energy contained in the hypothetical 60 cm square beneath the fixture.<\/p>\n<p>You can see that the three energy totals\u20142,426,311, 2,060,089, and 1,470,894\u2014offer a new perspective compared to central PAR values. While those values drop more steeply due to distance, the energy decreases less dramatically since most of the concentrated light remains in the central area.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of the\u00a0<strong>Keloray AL200<\/strong>, total energy also decreases, a sign that a significant portion of the light is spread sideways to enhance coverage. Excellent for tanks up to 70 cm wide or more with full coverage. It slightly pays the price of having lower peak power compared to other models, but the wide spread enhances light reflection from the glass, significantly increasing real PAR values in the tank.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-power-consumption\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Power Consumption<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-01-27-at-13.54.36.jpeg\" rel=\"dofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"643\" class=\"wp-image-328936\" src=\"https:\/\/reefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-01-27-at-13.54.36-1024x643.jpeg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-01-27-at-13.54.36-1024x643.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/reefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-01-27-at-13.54.36-980x616.jpeg 980w, https:\/\/reefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-01-27-at-13.54.36-480x302.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Here above, we see the maximum power draw of 194 +\/- 1 watts, measured with a smart socket that tracks consumption.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Keloray AL200<\/strong> therefore consumes 194 watts compared to the declared 200 watts. Slightly below spec, but 194 watts is still a significant amount. Given that it produces 1820 \u03bcmol m\u207b\u00b2 s\u207b\u00b9 at 17 cm, we can derive a peak efficiency of\u00a0<strong>9.38 \u03bcmol m\u207b\u00b2 s\u207b\u00b9 per watt (PAR\/watt)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-keloray-al200-and-heat\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keloray AL200 and Heat<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>Keloray AL200<\/strong> lighting system uses entirely passive cooling. Given its reasonably compact dimensions, we believe it\u2019s safe to say there\u2019s no overheating issue for the LEDs, even with only a 16 mm heat sink. We\u2019ll confirm this in future tests on my own aquarium.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-maintenance-costs\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maintenance Costs<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Keloray AL200<\/strong>, imported to Italy by Yorah and our friend <strong>Leo Carcione<\/strong>, is priced at \u20ac860 but currently on launch offer in Italy for \u20ac800. Demanding SPS corals won\u2019t have any trouble. Always remember: with this fixture, you can achieve PAR values similar to those at a depth of 1 meter underwater. As you increase distance, intensity drops, but not dramatically, while coverage increases.<\/p>\n<p>The fixture is 45 cm long, making it perfect for 60\u201370 cm aquariums and multiples of that size.
