Netflix Announces New Thriller Last Days Starring Elisabeth Moss as a Mother Fighting to Save Her Family

""

June 4, 2025 — Netflix has officially unveiled its next major original film, titled Last Days, with Emmy-winning actress Elisabeth Moss set to take on the lead role. Slated for release this fall, the intense psychological thriller follows a mother’s desperate fight to protect her family as society begins to unravel around her.

Known for her powerful performances in The Handmaid’s Tale and Shining Girls, Moss is no stranger to playing complex, emotionally layered characters—and Last Days promises to push her to even deeper territory. The film is directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), blending haunting realism with edge-of-your-seat suspense.

A Story of Survival, Love, and Unbreakable Will

In Last Days, Moss portrays Claire Maddox, a former emergency room nurse living in a quiet suburban town with her two children. As the world faces a mysterious societal collapse—marked by power outages, communication breakdowns, and rising violence—Claire must navigate a crumbling reality to keep her family safe. With her husband missing and trust in strangers rapidly fading, Claire is forced to confront not only the external chaos but the deep personal demons that begin to resurface.

Netflix describes the film as “a raw and gripping exploration of maternal strength in the face of desperation, where the line between hope and survival grows increasingly thin.”

Early footage shown to press insiders teases haunting visuals, nerve-wracking tension, and a lead performance that could be one of Moss’s most compelling yet. Supporting cast members include Brian Tyree Henry as a mysterious neighbor with secrets of his own, and Florence Pugh in a chilling role as a woman whose intentions may not be what they seem.

A Dark Mirror of Today’s World

Elisabeth Moss, also serving as an executive producer, shared her thoughts about the film:

“This story felt urgent. It taps into the fear so many people carry beneath the surface—the fear of losing everything you love. Claire isn’t a superhero. She’s just a mother doing everything she can. That’s what makes her so powerful.”

Director Jennifer Kent added:

“At its heart, Last Days is about resilience. We wanted to create a story that felt intimate and universal—a survival story that reflects the emotional toll of living in uncertain times.”

Coming This Fall

Netflix plans to release Last Days globally on October 25, 2025, just in time for the Halloween season, aiming to offer both emotional depth and gripping suspense. With Moss at the helm and a masterful creative team behind the scenes, expectations are high for this to become one of the year’s standout original films.

Whether you’re drawn to psychological thrillers, emotional dramas, or simply Elisabeth Moss’s unmatched acting range, Last Days is shaping up to be a must-watch event.
