{"id":271920,"date":"2025-06-04T03:44:15","date_gmt":"2025-06-04T03:44:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/activist\/a-cautionary-tale-for-generations\/"},"modified":"2025-06-04T03:44:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T03:44:15","slug":"a-cautionary-tale-for-generations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=271920","title":{"rendered":"A Cautionary Tale for Generations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/progressive.org\/downloads\/21819\/download\/ProtectTransHealthRallyDC.jpg?cb=6981cdc91ba5356253ea6e73532fcb30\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"lead\">Once upon a time in America, a majority of voters decided to voluntarily forfeit their democracy, economic fortunes, and freedoms to destroy the phantom menace of transgender people.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2024 election, Republicans\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/truthout.org\/articles\/republicans-spent-nearly-215m-on-tv-ads-attacking-trans-rights-this-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (spent more than $200 million)\">spent more than $200 million<\/a>\u00a0to convince Americans that transgender people, hovering around\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/nbc-out\/out-politics-and-policy\/transgender-people-are-1-us-population-yet-re-political-lightning-rod-rcna198852\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (1 percent of the population)\">1 percent of the population<\/a>, were a greater threat than a vulgarian, criminal rapist who incited a violent insurrection, quoted Hitler, and declared bankruptcy six times. However, fear and mass hysteria don\u2019t require logic or common sense to grab hold of the people\u2019s attention. All you need is an incestuous rightwing media ecosystem and a craven and cynical Republican Party willing to demonize one of the most marginalized communities on Earth. The world\u2019s richest man, Elon Musk, purchasing Twitter and transforming it into a platform for neo-Nazis, hate-mongers, and anti-LGBTQ+ disinformation also doesn\u2019t help.<\/p>\n<p>The successful\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/topic\/Southern-strategy\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (Southern strategy)\">Southern strategy<\/a>\u00a0deployed by Republicans since the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964 was given a modern reboot, with LGBTQ+ people and \u201cwokeness\u201d emerging as the latest manufactured bogeyman to convince Americans to vote against their interests. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/11\/02\/1049026183\/virginia-governor-election-mcauliffe-youngkin\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (Virginia gubernatorial race)\">Virginia gubernatorial race<\/a>\u00a0of 2021 was a test case to see if creating panic about critical race theory; diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); and transgender acceptance in public schools could help propel Republican Glenn Youngkin to victory. Like the world\u2019s most helpful Bond villain, rightwing activist Christopher Rufo\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/progressive.org\/magazine\/teach-truth-the-struggle-for-antiracist-education-hagopian-20250214\/\">admitted<\/a>\u00a0the plot and said the GOP would use establishment media as a Trojan horse to mainstream these fringe talking points outside of the MAGA bubble.<\/p>\n<p>In turn, establishment media happily obliged, with\u00a0The New York Times\u00a0later inviting Rufo to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/27\/opinion\/christopher-rufo-diversity-desantis-florida-university.html\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (write an op-ed)\">write an op-ed<\/a>\u00a0on its esteemed pages. After Donald Trump\u2019s election in 2024, alleged progressives like California Governor Gavin Newsom, comedian Bill Maher, and the hosts of the news commentary show\u00a0<em>The Young Turks<\/em>\u00a0openly parroted MAGA\u2019s cynical and hateful talking points about transgender people to court a rightwing audience and cozy up to power. Just like \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/codeswitch\/2013\/12\/20\/255819681\/the-truth-behind-the-lies-of-the-original-welfare-queen\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (welfare queens)\">welfare queens<\/a>,\u201d sharia law, and an alleged caravan of invaders, America had to protect its children and women\u2014especially in sports\u2014from the dreaded woke virus that celebrated LGBTQ+ communities.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, America\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/translegislation.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (will have)\">will have<\/a>\u00a0more anti-trans bills in 2025 than actual trans athletes. The Trump Administration literally attempted to erase the existence of transgender and nonbinary people from public view, even scrubbing the word \u201ctransgender\u201d from government websites. One of the administration\u2019s first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/defending-women-from-gender-ideology-extremism-and-restoring-biological-truth-to-the-federal-government\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (Executive Orders)\">Executive Orders<\/a>\u00a0called for the recognition of only \u201ctwo sexes, male and female.\u201d Trump officials also attempted to purge transgender soldiers from the U.S. military, even though none of them have ever been accused of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/25\/us\/politics\/pete-hegseth-phone-signal.html\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (sharing)\">sharing<\/a>\u00a0classified military information on Signal, a commercial messaging app, with family and journalists, using a private cellphone.<\/p>\n<p>Universities and other schools that protect transgender students were also targeted, with the Trump Administration\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/03\/20\/nx-s1-5333675\/university-pennsylvania-upenn-trump-suspends-funding-trans-student-athletes\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (suspending)\">suspending<\/a>\u00a0$175 million in funding to the University of Pennsylvania due to the existence of one trans swimmer, Lia Thomas, whom former swimmer turned anti-trans MAGA activist Riley Gaines\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/19thnews.org\/2025\/02\/riley-gaines-trans-sports-debate\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (blames)\">blames<\/a>\u00a0for her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/riley-gaines-i-left-there-with-no-trophy-after-tie-with-lia-thomas-kentucky-standout-disappointed-with-ncaa\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (being denied)\">being denied<\/a>\u00a0a fifth place trophy in a competition.<\/p>\n<p>Trump then publicly picked a fight with the state of Maine by threatening to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mainemorningstar.com\/2025\/04\/16\/heres-a-running-list-of-all-the-probes-funding-cuts-since-trump-threatened-maine\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (withhold federal funds)\">withhold federal funds<\/a>\u00a0because the state\u2019s Democratic governor, Janet Mills, refused to exclude transgender athletes from competing in women\u2019s sports.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Unfortunately, many people in communities of color and in minority religious communities fell for the anti-trans panic without realizing they were next in line to be erased. Specifically, some Muslim American communities in Maryland volunteered to be halal chickens for the chopping block.<\/p>\n<p>As of this writing, the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s conservative majority\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/supreme-court-lgbtq-books-religion-maryland-069d155fa862d2a16619fc7f513819ab\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (seems to be siding)\">seems to be siding<\/a>\u00a0with religious parents in that state\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/search.aspx?filename=\/docket\/docketfiles\/html\/public\/24-297.html\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (who want to remove)\">who want to remove<\/a>\u00a0their children from classes that use storybooks with LGBTQ+ characters. Again, the conservative majority was seen to be promoting discrimination and Christian nationalism under the guise of religious liberties, by conveniently using a Muslim person of color to do their bidding. This was the same playbook that was used to dismantle affirmative action by using an Asian American plaintiff instead of a white woman as a convenient \u201cmodel minority\u201d tool to achieve their end game.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing people from marginalized communities of color fall for the right wing\u2019s cruel and cynical attack on transgender people to further their authoritarian agenda proves Gore Vidal\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1745710\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (comment)\">comment<\/a>\u00a0that we live in the \u201cUnited States of Amnesia.\u201d It seems Pastor Martin Neim\u00f6ller\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/encyclopedia.ushmm.org\/content\/en\/article\/martin-niemoeller-first-they-came-for-the-socialists\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (famous)\">famous<\/a>\u00a0poetic confession, \u201cFirst they came,\u201d should be read daily by people who think the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YfUZW7QJXek\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (Face-Eating Leopard Party won&#x2019;t begin to eat people&#x2019;s faces)\">Face-Eating Leopard Party won\u2019t begin to eat people\u2019s faces<\/a>\u00a0once they gain power.<\/p>\n<p>Tragically, that\u2019s what happened in America, where transgender people were the first victims, quickly followed by undocumented immigrants, pro-Palestinian students, news outlets, universities, and even Republicans who dared to defy Trump and show fidelity to the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s promise to bring down the price of eggs was replaced by a reckless and unnecessary trade war that increased the chances of a global recession. \u201cAmerica First\u201d isolationism was replaced by threats to conquer Greenland by force and take Canada as the fifty-first state. The removal of DEI only elevated the world\u2019s most incompetent, reckless, greedy, and idiotic people, who presided over an American nation that lost its former allies and international reputation and became a cautionary tale for generations.<\/p>\n<p>A once powerful country chose to destroy itself due to fear, misinformation, and a manufactured hatred of one of the most marginalized communities on Earth.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once upon a time in America, a majority of voters decided to voluntarily forfeit their democracy, economic fortunes, and freedoms to destroy the phantom menace of transgender people.
