But when we\u2019re so emotionally involved in our kids\u2019 success, some of us can inadvertently grow overbearing.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine a parent constantly shouting out, \u201c<em>You\u2019re a star, beat those guys!<\/em>\u201d Or, \u201c<em>Show \u2018em what you\u2019re made of!<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Too much public commentary can be embarrassing for kids. And we should always consider whether certain phrases may be disrespectful to other players. In kids\u2019 sports, the focus shouldn\u2019t be creaming the opposing team. It should be playing a decent, fair game.<\/p>\n<p>Also, this is not professional territory. The <strong>coaches and referees are probably volunteers.<\/strong> It can be easy to disagree with a referee\u2019s or a coach\u2019s decision, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.positiveparentingsolutions.com\/parenting\/teaching-kids-respect\">showing respect to everyone involved<\/a>\u2014regardless of a terrible play or bad call\u2014helps keep the atmosphere at a kid-friendly level.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget; <strong>your kids are constantly learning from your example<\/strong>. If you\u2019re a hot-headed John McEnroe, they may follow your lead and believe that arguing\u2014rather than determinedly moving past a disappointing result\u2014is a more effective strategy.<\/p>\n<p>And if you have concerns or ideas you\u2019d like to run by the coach, you can always schedule a private meeting.
