Two climate activists affiliated with the group Just Stop Oil<\/a> have painted Charles Darwin\u2019s grave at London\u2019s Westminster Abbey with a stark message: \u201c1.5 is dead.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The protest was a response to the news<\/a> that global temperatures in 2024\u00a0exceeded<\/a> 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Staying below this threshold was one of the commitments set by the\u00a0Paris Agreement<\/a> in 2015.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have already passed through the 1.5 degree [threshold] that was supposed to keep us safe,\u201d said one of the activists during the protest<\/a>, per video footage released by Just Stop Oil. \u201cMillions are being displaced, California is on fire and three-quarters of all wildlife has disappeared since the 1970s.\u201d<\/p>\n
