Society of Hohenwald,\u00a0 Tennessee posted to Facebook late on June 1,\u00a0 2025.<\/p>\n The identification may facilitate either criminal prosecution or a civil lawsuit seeking extensive damages.<\/p>\n Identification of the suspects,\u00a0 whom the Horse Plus Humane Society did not name in advance of possible legal action,\u00a0 came two days after Big Lick walking horse enthusiasts charged,\u00a0 pummeled,\u00a0 and tackled Horse Plus cofounder Jason Preisner,\u00a0 45, \u00a0and their son Justin,\u00a0 16,\u00a0 \u00a0during a Spring Jubilee walking horse exhibition hosted by the Maury County Horseman\u2019s Association.<\/p>\n Belligerent Big Licjker charges Jason Preisner.<\/strong><\/em> \u201cTwo members of the organization were transported to Maury Regional Hospital via ambulance, \u00a0and another member checked herself into the emergency room after the attack,\u201d\u00a0 Horse Plus spokesperson Angela Archibald recounted in a media release.<\/p>\n \u201cThe group sustained many injuries, \u00a0including a life-altering injury that requires surgery,\u201d\u00a0 Archibald said,\u00a0 adding that \u201cHorse Plus Humane Society has been peacefully protesting at this event for 10 years without prior physical altercations.\u201d<\/p>\n Citizens Campaign Against Big Lick Animal Cruelty founder Clant Seay (1947-2023),\u00a0 did however report violence against himself and other protesters at multiple Big Lick horse shows held at the same venue.<\/p>\n (Beth Clifton collage)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Horse Plus Humane Society \u201cwas protesting against the soring of Tennessee Walking Horses, \u00a0which is the act of putting caustic chemicals on the horse\u2019s pastern, \u00a0wrapping the leg to \u2018cook\u2019 the chemicals into the leg, \u00a0and using chains and tall pads to achieve the artificial gait known as the Big Lick,\u201d\u00a0 Archibald explained.<\/p>\n The idea,\u00a0 essentially,\u00a0 is to make the horse goose-step like a Nazi soldier.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Columbia Spring Jubilee is held at Maury County Park,\u201d\u00a0 a public facility,\u00a0 detailed an earlier Horse Plus Humane Society account accompanying two videos of what happened.<\/p>\n One of the videos showed everything from beginning to end,\u00a0 exactly as the Horse Plus Humane Society described it.\u00a0 The other confirmed several key points,\u00a0 including who the belligerent parties were and who threw the first blows.<\/p>\n Horse Plus Humane Society protesters.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cFor a decade,\u201d\u00a0 the earlier account began, \u00a0\u201cwe have protested beside the road as trucks and trailers bring Big Lick horses to the show. \u00a0Once the show starts, \u00a0we go into the park, \u00a0taking photos and filming the horses to raise awareness about the Big Lick and the cruel practices around it.<\/p>\n \u201cLaw enforcement told us that they wanted us to stay in a certain area, \u00a0and after observing the situation and talking with them for a while, \u00a0we went to the area that law enforcement encouraged us to go to, \u00a0as it was the best area for us they Humane Society cofounder,\u00a0 Tawnee Preisner,\u00a0 41,\u00a0 wife of Jason Preisner and mother of Justin Preisner,\u00a0 \u201cwas along the rail filming the Big Lick horses in slow motion,\u201d\u00a0 the Horse Plus Humane Society account continued.<\/p>\n \u201cUsually, \u00a0horses are beautiful when filmed in slow motion,\u201d\u00a0 the account noted,\u00a0 \u201cbut when Big Lick horses are filmed in slow motion, \u00a0it\u2019s horrifying. \u00a0In slow motion, \u00a0you see the true torture these horses are going through with every step.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile Tawnee was filming the horses in slow motion as they went by with their stacks and chains, \u00a0Jason was doing a live stream on YouTube.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Big Lickers hate it when horses are filmed in slow motion,\u201d\u00a0 the Horse Plus Humane Society account noted, \u00a0\u201cbecause they know that it brings public awareness to the cruel practices of soring and the Big Lick.<\/p>\n (Horse Plus started making demands and threats. \u00a0He tried to knock the phone out of Jason\u2019s hand, and when Jason said we needed the sheriff there, \u00a0he came around,\u201d\u00a0 out of the bleachers,\u00a0 charging Jason,\u00a0 yelling for him to get the camera out of his face,\u00a0 which had not been pointed his way prior to the harassment.<\/p>\n \u201cOf course, \u00a0all the Big Lickers claimed that Jason attacked him,\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0the Horse Plus Humane Society said,\u00a0 \u201cbut you can clearly see in the video that the guy came over and attacked Jason. \u00a0During the attack, their son Justin was trying to protect his dad and ended up getting attacked by two other individuals: \u00a0a woman who stole Jason\u2019s phone that he used doing the YouTube live stream, \u00a0and another guy who threw Justin against a concrete wall and then body-slammed him to the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n Belligerent man and woman.<\/strong><\/em> Posted Justin Preisner to his own Facebook account,\u00a0 \u201cI was trying to get the attacker off of my dad, \u00a0when a woman attacked me, \u00a0and then I was attacked by another person who slammed me into a wall, and then body slammed me on the ground. \u00a0The woman who attacked me also stole my dad\u2018s phone. You can see it in her back pocket,\u201d\u00a0 in the Horse Plus Humane Society video, \u00a0\u201cwhen she was attacking me. \u00a0I have multiple injuries from this,\u201d\u00a0 Justin Preisner confirmed.<\/p>\n \u201cJason and Justin were taken to the hospital by ambulance,\u201d\u00a0 the Horse Plus Humane Society resumed. \u00a0\u201cTawnee was able to drive herself and got treatment for the injuries she sustained during the attack. \u00a0Shockingly, \u00a0law enforcement did not arrest anyone who attacked Jason, \u00a0Tawnee, \u00a0or Justin.\u201d<\/p>\n Tawnee Preisner & Tarheel.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Instead,\u00a0 another social media account said,\u00a0 \u201cThey were dog-piled and attacked by multiple grown men, \u00a0women, \u00a0and young men. \u00a0In the end?\u00a0 The sheriff,\u201d\u00a0 Bucky Rowland, \u00a0\u201cno-trespassed all of our people, \u00a0and did not arrest the people who attacked us. \u00a0Welcome to Tennessee!\u201d<\/p>\n The woman who took Jason Preisner\u2019s cell phone apparently abandoned it in a restroom,\u00a0 where it was recovered.<\/p>\n Tawnee Preisner,\u00a0 before moving to Tennessee,\u00a0 in 2009 cofounded NorCal Equine Rescue in Oroville,\u00a0 California.\u00a0 She recently purchased a sored former walking horse champion,\u00a0 Tarheel,\u00a0 at a slaughter auction.<\/p>\n Horse Plus Humane Society rescuing Gen\u2019s Ice Glimmer.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n But her most memorable discovery of a sored former walking horse champion being sold to slaughter came on July 28,\u00a0 2015,\u00a0 when she spotted a sored,\u00a0 registered Tennessee walking horse named Gen\u2019s Ice Glimmer at an auction in Cookeville, \u00a0Tennessee.<\/p>\n Preisner in 2015 asked Clant Seay to help her buy Gen\u2019s Ice Glimmer\u00a0 Seay did.<\/p>\n \u201cSeay had two veterinarians examine Gen\u2019s Ice Glimmer, \u00a0including Dr. J.T. James, a retired but licensed veterinarian who used to inspect walking horses for the USDA,\u201d\u00a0 reported Holly Meyer for the Nashville Tennessean<\/em> on August 26,\u00a0 2015.<\/p>\n \u201cJames said he found moderate scarring just above the horse\u2019s hooves, \u00a0which puts Gen\u2019s Ice Glimmer in violation of the Horse Protection Act\u2019s scar rule.<\/p>\n \u201cIn 2013, Gen\u2019s Ice Glimmer was found to be sore at the Walking for Education show in Murfreesboro, \u00a0according to a 2013 report by the USDA,\u201d\u00a0 Meyer learned.<\/p>\n Clant Seay with Glimmer.<\/strong><\/em> \u201cKiller buyers were waiting to bid on him and load him on a waiting trailer to head to a slaughter plant in Mexico,\u201d\u00a0 Clant Seay remembered.<\/p>\n Instead,\u00a0 with Seay,\u00a0 Gen\u2019s Ice Glimmer became the \u201cposter child\u201d for the Citizens Campaign Against \u201cBig Lick\u201d Animal Cruelty.<\/p>\n After Seay died,\u00a0 Tawnee Preisner kept \u00a0Gen\u2019s Ice Glimmer until his death at approximately age 20.<\/p>\n Participating in the Gen\u2019s Ice Glimmer rescue turned Seay into a full-time protester against the Big Lick for the last eight years of his life.<\/p>\n In that capacity,\u00a0 Seay on June 3,\u00a0 2016 ran afoul of Maury County sheriff Bucky Rowland,\u00a0 the same sheriff who failed to charge the May 29,\u00a0 2025 assailants of the Preisner family.<\/p>\n Maury County Sheriff Bucky Rowland.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Seay,\u00a0 however,\u00a0 was an accomplished civil rights attorney.\u00a0 When Rowland ordered Seay and fellow members of the Citizens Campaign Against Big Lick Animal Cruelty to turn off their cameras and stop videotaping a Big Lick show at Maury County Park,\u00a0 Seay sued Rowland in U.S. District Court\u2013\u2013a federal jurisdiction\u2013\u2013for allegedly violating his First and 14th Amendment rights.<\/p>\n Rowland in May and August 2017 agreed to federal court orders to not interfere with Seay\u2019s First Amendment rights at horse shows,\u00a0 including the Columbia Spring Jubilee Horse Show,\u00a0 but balked in May 2018,\u00a0 Seay reported,\u00a0 after Seay publicized the court orders.<\/p>\n On June 2,\u00a0 2018,\u00a0 Seay complained to Rowland,\u00a0 \u201cFive Below, Inc. district manager Kent McGary allegedly intentionally and maliciously drove his 2017 Ford Escape SUV, \u00a0owned by Five Below, \u00a0Inc., \u00a0on the wrong side of the road at eleven persons\u201d who were protesting against the \u201cBig Lick\u201d exhibition at the Columbia Spring Jubilee Horse Show.\u201d<\/p>\n Rowland apparently took no action.<\/p>\n
