When prospective jurors walk into the courtroom, they only
\nknow one thing for sure: the courtroom is His\/Her Honor\u2019s private reserve, and
\nthe Judge\u2019s word is law. Everything about the physical layout of the courtroom
\nsays \u201cIn this room, the Judge is Top Dog, and whatever they say is set in
\nstone.\u201d The Judge sits higher than everyone else. All must rise upon the
\nJudge\u2019s entrance, and may only be seated when told to do so. And whatever the
\nJudge says, however erudite or nonsensical it may seem, becomes \u201cwhat is\u201d in
\nthat Courtroom.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, imagine my surprise when I observe lawyers go directly
\nagainst a Judge\u2019s \u201cwhat I expect in my courtroom.\u201d\u00a0 I know, from years of experience, that jurors,
\nwhether prospective or empaneled, ding any lawyer who fails to respect a
\nJudge\u2019s stated orders. The most common failure is the failure to respect time. For
\nexample, the Judge says \u201cYour mini-opening will be two minutes, no longer.\u201d The
\nlawyer launches into their mini-opening, the two-minute mark is hit, the Judge
\ncuts the lawyer off \u2013 sometimes, mid-word. The lawyer, hurt and surprised, sits
\ndown. The prospective jurors look coldly at the lawyer. They heard the rule,
\nwhy couldn\u2019t the lawyer obey it?<\/span><\/p>\n

You see, prospective jurors MUST appear when summoned, MUST
\nbe on time, MUST turn off their mobile devices, MUST sit where told to sit, and
\nthe list goes on. When the Judge tells you what you MUST do, you\u2019re well
\nadvised to do it. Failure to do so makes you disrespectful in prospective
\njurors\u2019 eyes, and less worthy of their consideration. Much harder to convince.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since your jurors are within that pool of prospective
\njurors, abiding by the Judge\u2019s edicts right from the git-go is the easiest,
\nquickest way to get their approval.<\/span><\/p>\n

Start off on the right foot with your jurors, and you have a
