{"id":265843,"date":"2025-05-31T19:52:17","date_gmt":"2025-05-31T19:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/agriculture\/brazilian-agrifoodtech-funding-grows-32-in-q1-2025\/"},"modified":"2025-05-31T19:52:17","modified_gmt":"2025-05-31T19:52:17","slug":"brazilian-agrifoodtech-funding-grows-32-in-q1-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=265843","title":{"rendered":"Brazilian agrifoodtech funding grows 32% in Q1 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><em>[Disclosure: AgFunderNews\u2019 parent company is AgFunder.]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Investment into Brazilian agrifoodtech has steadily increased over the years as more and more VC dollars flow into sectors like Ag Marketplaces, agrifintech, and bio-based crop protections\u2014all areas brimming with startup activity in the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to AgFunder data, Brazil ranked third in the Americas (behind the US and Canada) and 11th globally for venture capital investment in agrifoodtech in 2024, with startups raising $249 million across 49 deals.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil remains the top-funded country in Latin America and the Caribbean for agrifoodtech investments, and second behind India among developing markets globally. (AgFunder considers China a developed country for investment data analysis.)<\/p>\n<p>Sector analysts <a href=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/brazil-at-the-top-of-the-list-of-countries-that-could-meet-rising-global-demand-for-food-report\">have recently recognized Brazil as a key player<\/a> in the global agrifoodtech landscape.<\/p>\n<p>However, as with other markets, investments have suffered from the global shortage of capital in the post-covid scenario: The $249 million raised in 2024 was a 24% drop from the previous year; dealcount was also down 43%, to 44 rounds.<\/p>\n<p>By comparison <a href=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/global-agrifoodtech-breaks-funding-freefall-with-16bn-in-2024\">2024 global agrifoodtech funding dropped<\/a> only 3% year on year, while deal count fell 21%.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>10 years of agrifoodtech investment in Brazil<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-18.24.58.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-44840 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-18.24.58.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1088\" height=\"679\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-18.24.58.png 1088w, https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-18.24.58-300x187.png 300w, https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-18.24.58-1024x639.png 1024w, https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-18.24.58-768x479.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1088px) 100vw, 1088px\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite the post-2021 slump, recent investment volumes have remained well above pre-covid levels, excluding 2018, where $500 million went to a single round scored by food delivery platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifood.com.br\">iFood<\/a>. It was, and remains, the largest deal in the history of Brazilian agrifoodtech startups.<\/p>\n<p>Minus that outlier, pre-pandemic funding levels are well below those that took place after 2021, which shows some resilience on the part of Brazil and hopes for future growth.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Agrifoodtech investment by quarter since 2022<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-18.43.37.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-44842 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-18.43.37.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1006\" height=\"695\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-18.43.37.png 1006w, https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-18.43.37-300x207.png 300w, https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-18.43.37-768x531.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1006px) 100vw, 1006px\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Along those lines, a more granular look at quarterly activity shows small signs of recovery.<\/p>\n<p>With a total of $76.8 million, Q1 2025 posted a 32% growth over the previous quarter, and 85% over the same period in 2024. In 2024 Brazil also represented nearly 55% of all agrifoodtech investment in Latam the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Breakdown by category<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-19.26.03.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-44846 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-19.26.03.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1244\" height=\"656\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-19.26.03.png 1244w, https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-19.26.03-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-19.26.03-1024x540.png 1024w, https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-19.26.03-768x405.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1244px) 100vw, 1244px\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The top two categories in 2024 were upstream. Ag Marketplaces &amp; Fintech garnered $84.3 million, with a 29% year over year increase. As the deal count was only up one unit from 2023, the increase in amount was achieved mainly thanks to larger deals, in particular the $52.7 million round raised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agrolend.agr.br\/en\/home-english\/\">Agrolend<\/a>, and the $20 million secured by <a href=\"https:\/\/traivefinance.com\/en\/\">Traive<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With four deals collectively worth $58.4 million, Ag Biotechnology was the second-best-funded category despite a 9% drop in total amount and 43% decrease in deal count. Downstream, In-store Retail &amp; Restaurant Tech raised $55.3 million, thanks to a YoY 129% increase in total funding, in spite of a 60% drop in number of deals.<\/p>\n<p>E-Grocery, Brazil\u2019s best-funded category in 2023 with $104.7 million, fell fifth position with just three deals in 2024, posting a 57% drop in deal count from the previous year and falling 84% in total funding.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stage analysis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-19.33.13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-44847 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-19.33.13.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1155\" height=\"681\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-19.33.13.png 1155w, https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-19.33.13-300x177.png 300w, https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-19.33.13-1024x604.png 1024w, https:\/\/agfundernews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-20-at-19.33.13-768x453.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1155px) 100vw, 1155px\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Seed stage activity for Brazilian agrifoodtech saw a sharp drop in 2024, with funding volumes down 44% to $22.3 million, and deal activity down 53% to 27 rounds. The average deal size for seed stage remained unchanged at around $1.1 million.<\/p>\n<p>Series A stage witnessed a 23% growth in total funding to $89.5 million, despite deals dropping slightly from 11 to 10 units., with median deal size rising from $6.6 million to 9.9 million.<\/p>\n<p>Series B deals went from zero to four units, for a total of almost $80 million, and volumes for C stage rose 5%, despite being represented by a single deal.
