This day serves as a reminder that access to proper menstrual hygiene is a basic human right and essential for the health, dignity, and well-being of girls and women around the world.

Since Menstrual Hygiene Day in 2024, African Adventures Foundation’s programme, The Good Period, which was set up to eliminate period poverty at our partner schools so that girls and boys can enjoy equal access to education, has increased its support to a further 333 girls. Now, each month, 533 girls receive enough sanitary pads to be able to manage their period with dignity and attend school without worry.

Not only are we continuing to support our three partner schools in Kenya, but we have expanded to two schools in Ghana.

Before the launch of The Good Period in Ghana, we asked the students if they had access to sanitary pads and underwear to manage their menstruation each month. 92% of them disagreed with this statement.

Through The Good Period Programme in Ghana, our goal is to change this and ensure that every girl has the access they need to manage their menstruation.

Students at Aklorbordzi School receiving their supply of sanitary pads.

Marian, the manager at Ungana Academy, shared with us the impact that The Good Period Programme has been having on their students

“Thank you African Adventures Foundation for the monthly supply of sanitary pads. By having a nurse deliver the sessions, the students will be able to have their questions answered by a medical professional and learn from their advanced knowledge. We hope to see this further increase the girls’ confidence in managing their menstruation and reduce the number of absence days from school.

It costs just £1 to provide one girl with enough sanitary pads for a month, which will help ensure she doesn’t miss school because of menstruation.
