Being back at work and with it not being as quiet as I had hoped, I found it hard to face\u00a0 my laptop outside of work hours, so apologies for the lateness of this post.<\/p>\n

I was actually in the gym on New Year\u2019s Eve and out litter-picking on New Year\u2019s Day morning \u2013 starting as I mean to go on!<\/p>\n

\n

I saved 21.5% <\/strong>of my net salary \u2013 more than I expected, which I\u2019m surprised at.<\/p>\n

The above includes \u00a343.26 <\/b>from doing Prolific surveys.<\/p>\n

Shares and Investment Trusts<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

No new investments, I just topped up existing ones.<\/p>\n

Future Fund\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Santa didn\u2019t show up for his rally but wasn\u2019t so mean in the end. As at 31st December 2024,\u00a0my Future Fund stood at \u00a3293,212.02<\/strong>.\u00a0 That\u2019s a 17%<\/strong> increase from this time last year (that\u2019s 17% including money I\u2019ve added as well as investment gains).<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how it all looks at the end of another year:<\/p>\n

Was tempted to have the submarine make an appearance but it\u2019s not that bad!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This year will see me breaching the \u00a3300k milestone soon!<\/p>\n

Using unitization, I\u2019m up just 10.3% <\/strong>this year across my entire portfolio \u2013 that\u2019s investments, cash\/premium bonds, everything. This figure includes my dividend income portfolio, where many of the UK stock prices continue to remain fairly depressed<\/del> rubbish.<\/p>\n

This is nothing spectacular investment-wise, I\u2019m sure other investors can brag about much bigger gains and I\u2019m happy for them, but happier for me that I\u2019ve got these gains. Go me!<\/p>\n

Am I hopeful for 2025?\u00a0 I\u2019m always hopeful but somehow, I don\u2019t think this year will be quite as good as the last one \u2013 just have a feeling that there\u2019s some other global event or disaster just round the corner which will disrupt markets again.<\/p>\n

Dividends and Other Income<\/strong><\/p>\n

I received \u00a3726.18<\/strong>, of which \u00a3224.75<\/strong>\u00a0was from my ISAs, the rest from my SIPPs.<\/p>\n

Total income received in my ISA was \u00a34,329.02<\/strong> so yay, I reached my target!<\/p>\n

Goals Update<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Three achieved \u2013 one better than last year so that\u2019s a win for me!<\/p>\n

Failing the Emergency Funds one again didn\u2019t surprise me \u2013 I was always going to struggle with this one, trying to balance saving\/investing, coping with increased costs etc. I do need to keep at it though.<\/p>\n

The charity donations one seemed too easy \u2013 there were probably a few small donations I forgot to add but I got there even without including them.<\/p>\n

I read a total of 17 books (my Goodreads goal) this year \u2013 am very happy I bagged the non-fiction\/classic goal but disappointed I didn\u2019t get the chance to clear more books off my bookshelves.<\/p>\n

The last non-fiction book I read? \u2018I Will Teach You to be Rich<\/a>\u2018 by Ramit Sethi. Although this book would have been far more useful to me had I come across it in my 20s, I still learned something new (and something about myself too).<\/p>\n

Already mentioned my ISA dividend income \u2013 this is now edging very close to my (current) goal of average \u00a3400 per month in income from my ISA investments to cover most of my basic household expenses. (\u00a3400 will more or less cover my council tax, broadband, gas and electricity and my monthly grocery food bill!).<\/p>\n

What\u2019s another Year?<\/strong><\/p>\n

2024 wasn\u2019t a bad year. Aside from my surgery last January, my sprained wrist, and feeling a bit frazzled before my annual leave, I\u2019ve been mostly healthy in mind and body.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I am still going through the motions of the peri-menopause; I\u2019d say my symptoms are on the mild side (my life is largely unaffected), although this past month, I\u2019ve suddenly been getting hot flashes, ie night sweats without the sweating! Getting too hot was starting to disrupt my sleep but I\u2019m now back to wearing what I would normally wear in the summer to bed and it seems to have done the trick. Bye bye, cosy winter PJs!<\/p>\n

\n

Year three in my house and some plants I bought when I moved in are still alive! My sister got me a bonsai tree for Christmas; I have never been able to keep one of these alive for more than a few months, so this will be a real challenge!<\/p>\n

Another year at work \u2013 same old grind, the occasional different flavours. Have gotten to know my boss more this year and I like her and like working with her.\u00a0 Probably more of the same this year but I must remind myself to put my health first and start recognising the signs of mental fatigue earlier on.<\/p>\n

Interest rates dropped, including my mortgage rate and in fact, I received another letter about another drop. My interest rate will now be 4.8%<\/strong>, down from the 5.3% I signed up to when I first took out the mortgage.<\/p>\n

Another year of making my own kefir \u2013 those grains I bought are still going strong! Oh, and I made a small return to homebrewing beer too, which wasn\u2019t planned but which was fun to do again.<\/p>\n

I wouldn\u2019t say my social life was exceptionally busy this year but I enjoyed outings with friends, attended most of the Manchester FIRE meet ups, attended WI meetings (and a couple of WI events), watched the darts live, had a trip to London to see the NFL American football, and enjoyed a lovely trip to Hong Kong to see my family, plus a cheeky jaunt into China!<\/p>\n

Speaking of darts, one of my friends got me a darts board for Christmas. I have no idea where to hang it (it\u2019s really heavy), so it\u2019s currently propped up in my living room where I throw a few darts at it as I walk past. Will need to move it before my sis comes round or she will report to my Mum and that will be another thing for her to disapprove of\u2026! \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

New Year, New Challenges?<\/strong><\/p>\n

New year, same old me.<\/p>\n

I was thinking about goals and couldn\u2019t really think of anything which I should be doing\u00a0 or doing more of, which could be set as a goal or NY resolution. Well, nothing that won\u2019t disrupt things, as I\u2019m quite happy with things ticking along at what appears to be an orderly pace.<\/p>\n

Despite all the doom and gloom in the news, here and abroad, I\u2019m still able to be a mostly optimistic person \u2013 it\u2019s either that or be a miserable old sod, which I\u2019m sure I will be in time, but I don\u2019t need to rush it along, haha!<\/p>\n

I will just try to continue to ignore what I can\u2019t control and keep on keeping on, carry on saving and investing where I can and enjoy my life however I can.<\/p>\n

I already know my goals will likely end up being similar to (or the same as) previous ones (so sorry to be boring!) but they keep me focused and they\u2019re ones I can keep at.<\/p>\n
