Just a short post because by the time you read this post, Mrs
\nPBT\u2019s<\/b> and I should be cruising up the eastern side of the Britain<\/b> and heading into
\nthe potentially choppy waters of the North Sea.<\/b> We\u2019ve embarked on 14-night
\ncruise aboard the Cunard Queen Anne<\/b>, that will take us right round the British Isles<\/b>
\nin an anticlockwise direction, visiting a number of interesting locations on
\nthe way, including Invergordon, Stornoway, Greenock<\/b> and Liverpool<\/b>, as well as calling at suitable deep-water ports for Edinburgh, Dublin <\/b>and Cork.<\/b> There will
\nbe coach trips to these three cities, although having visited both the Scottish<\/b>
\nand Irish<\/b> capitals, I shall give these two destinations a miss, and see what\u2019s
\navailable locally, in their respective ports.<\/p>\n
We sailed on the Queen Anne<\/b> on last year, on a cruise of the
\nwestern Mediterranean<\/b>, and it will be interesting to see how the ship is settling
\nin. I say this because the Anne<\/b> is the newest vessel amongst Cunard\u2019s<\/b> four Queen<\/b>
\nships, and has experienced a few teething troubles whilst settling in. These
\nthings are to be expected, and I imagine that any issues will have been sorted
\nby now, so it\u2019s fingers crossed for a smooth sailing plus the chance to experience
\nparts of these fair isles of ours.<\/p>\n
Mrs PBT\u2019s<\/b> has packed enough clothes and supplies to cover an
\naround-the-world journey, which might be somewhat excessive, although I
\nunderstand her caution given the unpredictability of British weather.<\/b> With this
\nin mind, I have prudently included one relatively thick coat, because as the
\nsaying goes, “There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate
\nclothing.”<\/i><\/b> My packing could have been minimized further if not for the
\nadditional items my wife requested to be included in my suitcase. Consequently,
\nI had to opt for the largest suitcase we\u2019ve got at home, to accommodate these
\nextras.<\/p>\n
That aside, we are both looking forward to our trip. Saturday<\/b> was extremely busy as we both spent the day thoroughly clearing out
\nour kitchen. This involves removing items accumulated over the past 30 years
\nrather than simply packing for a holiday. While we are away, we are having a
\nnew kitchen fitted. It obviously makes sense for the work to be carried out in
\nour absence, although we have left our son Matthew<\/b> in nominal charge of proceedings, so we will see how things
\nprogress during our absence.<\/p>\n
Well-known ports of call include two days in Liverpool<\/b>.
\nHowever, exploring the city on the first day might be challenging due to an
\nopen-top bus parade for Liverpool FC<\/b>, celebrating their recent football
\nchampionship. Unfortunately, this means my plans to visit several National Inventory<\/b> pubs have been altered. A work colleague, with family connections to Liverpoo<\/b>l, has warned that the pubs will be
\nextremely crowded, noisy, and best avoided. Which means postponing visits to the\u00a0NI pubs<\/b>, will have to wait until the following day. However, my wife
\nhas informed me that we will have a royal guest on board ship in the form of\u00a0 the Princess Royal<\/b> – so Princess Anne<\/b> visits Queen Anne.<\/b> This might mean movement on and off the ship
\nwill be restricted, due to security concerns surrounding the royal personage, so we
\nshall see how it turns out.\u00a0<\/p>\n
When our ship visits Ireland,<\/b> there will be a coach transfer
\ninto the city from our stop at\u00a0Dun Laoghaire,<\/b><\/span><\/span>\u00a0However, since I have visited Dublin<\/b>
\nbefore, I will probably skip the city tour and explore the local area instead. Our next
\nstop, Cobh<\/b> (formerly Queenstown<\/b>), holds historical significance as it was the
\nlast port of call for the Titanic<\/b> on its ill-fated maiden voyage. Following its
\ndeparture from Cobh<\/b>, the ship entered the Atlantic <\/b>and tragically met its end on 15th April 1912<\/b>, after that fateful collision with
\nan iceberg.\u00a0<\/p>\nI am tidying up this post with the help of AI <\/b>as it is
\ncurrently quite disorganized due to being dictated rather than typed. While
\nembracing new technology, I remain committed to maintaining creativity. Let’s
\nsee how this turns out. I will be taking my laptop with me, so hopefully, I
\nwill be able to post while at sea or at least once we dock somewhere with a 4G
\nsignal. <\/b>That’s all for now, although I plan to be back in touch soon.\u00a0<\/p>\n
No photos, at the moment, unfortunately, due to the dreaded IT issues. I had enough trouble connecting\u00a0<\/i>my laptop<\/i>\u00a0to the ship’s Wi-Fi, and now it’s not recognising the link to my photos, I’m afraid you will have to use your imaginations until I get the issue fixed.
