Museo Casa Kahlo, as the new space will be known, will be located in Casa Roja, a residence next to the artist\u2019s famed home, Casa Azul. The museum intends to offer a personal perspective on Kahlo\u2019s early life. <\/p>\n<p>Casa Roja was originally acquired by Kahlo\u2019s parents and later passed through the family to her grandniece, Mara Romeo Kahlo, who has donated it to the museum. Unlike Casa Azul, which focuses on Kahlo\u2019s relationship with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/diego-rivera\">Diego Rivera<\/a>, the new space will explore her early years and the influence of her father, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/guillermo-kahlo\">Guillermo Kahlo<\/a>, a photographer. The museum is being designed in part by Rockwell Group and managed by a trust, Fideicomiso de los Museos Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo. The museum will be an important new addition to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/article\/artsy-editorial-art-lovers-guide-mexico-city\">Mexico City\u2019s art scene<\/a>, which has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/article\/artsy-editorial-inside-mexico-citys-meteoric-rise-art-capital\">growing<\/a> in stature in recent years. <\/p>\n<p>Frida Kahlo\u2019s grandniece, Mara Romeo Kahlo, and her great-grandnieces, Mara Deanda Kahlo and Frida Hentschel Romeo, traveled to New York to publicize the institution on May 21. The announcement was made at the Park Avenue residence of high-profile art collectors Christine and Stephen Schwarzman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the first time, the voice of the family will be at the heart of how Frida\u2019s story is told,\u201d Hentschel Romeo told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/museo-casa-kahlo-a-new-frida-kahlo-museum\">Vogue<\/a><\/em>. \u201cThis museum isn\u2019t just about her work\u2014it\u2019s about her world. It\u2019s about how the people closest to her shaped who she became. And it\u2019s also about the living family\u2014those of us who carry her legacy forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ad\u00e1n Garc\u00eda Fajardo, currently academic director at the Museum of Memory and Tolerance in Mexico City, has been appointed as director of Museo Casa Kahlo. The project is being supported by Fundaci\u00f3n Kahlo, a nonprofit founded by the family and based in New York.
